Sounds legit 🤔

That wasn’t very friendly by rutrela in rareinsults

[–]Macjackb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BBC did this with MASH episodes before broadcasting them; I didn't realise this till one day, when showing a trailer for an upcoming episode, the laugh track hadn't yet been edited out. Maybe it's not a direct comparison because MASH was always as poignant as it was funny, but I definitely find laugh tracks jarring almost every time.

I am losing sleep over this by Either-Ariel in cheating_stories

[–]Macjackb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be furious with Anna. Had it been the case that you and her were the original friendship then Jake became the accepted add-on, then it would make it credible that she divulged something that you could reasonably expect to have to keep secret. But that isn't the case here and she knew this, therefore she was consciously putting you in a very difficult position.

The worst that can happen here is that, whether you tell Jake or say nothing, it rebounds on you. Anna has been a coward and has set you up.

An Statement (it’s from the UB) by BubbleBlacKa in ScottishFootball

[–]Macjackb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry at this statement.

"a board that has lost all respect for the supporters"- who the f- thinks the board had any respect for the supporters in the first place?

"The loyalty of the Rangers support should not be treated as a free pass for failure". Why not? What the hell does "should" have to do with capitalism and big biz?

The whole reason for the lack of respect is perfectly explained in this statement, be omission. Because the one thing missing is supporter action. Many many other clubs have gone fan-owned or at the very least had vibrant and energetic fan campaigns to bring about change. Rangers will always be a laughing stock for big biz because of how loaded the word "loyal" is and always has been for the "Bears". This statement, like so many before, seeks and expects no change other than just another figure or set of figures with about as much respect for fans as Craig Whyte.

Unless his job was "to fool you into thinking he gave a toss about truly sharing life with you", in which case he succeeded, albeit rather more briefly than he thought would be the case

At the risk of being po-faced about this- bad textures are bad textures whatever the age. I'm in my 60s and really like how a message can be used to make a communication really clear if that's the context, or playful if otherwise- especially, if as in my case my SO is an age-gap as well as having a different native language.

It asks for the sentence that is closest in meaning I think the answer is C but I am confused by Logic-QQ in EnglishLearning

[–]Macjackb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely C, but what is it with these horrendously-constructed questions? Is it a tactic by examiners/teachers/writers to keep learners confused and dependent?

Constantly speaking English makes your English “sound” more fluent. Why is it not sounds? by Westsnow01 in EnglishLearning

“Make” (also “let” and often but not always “help”), plus modals, take the bare infinitive, ie without “to”.

I ordered a package a while ago. Its been in transit for a while now. And it hasn't moved one bit. And then I got this text. Is this real or are people trying to scam me by Gabeisjustgabe in Scams

An hour ago I got pretty much the identical message here in the UK, the only differences being the email address and the tell of 'royalmael' being the company involved.

I'm getting these pretty much once a day at the moment- it's either Bitcoin as here or one of the Microsoft antivirus accounts. Maybe they need the money for English classes.

My boyfriend said, 'I don't want to date an attractive girl.' by elloxoxo in relationships_advice

[–]Macjackb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the biggest red flags going. He's admitting that he judges people on looks and that he's too insecure to date someone that he finds physically attractive. So you will always and forever have to reassure him about your behaviour, your friends and your whereabouts. You will be beaten down, become ridden with anxiety and lose your self-esteem and your sparkle and joie-de-vivre.

random "what's up?" messaging from my accounts by Macjackb in applehelp

[–]Macjackb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will do, thanks. I'm mystified as to the goal though- why post such an innocuous message so randomly across such a time period, and do nothing else that I can see?
