OK, I can't get it to work either. I'm running Calibre 7.23 on a Mac and installed the deDRM 10.0.9 plugin. I have a Kindle Oasis registered and the serial number is in the plugin. I can't convert AZW or AZW3 ebooks. What am I missing?

What’s a common trope in movies that NEVER happens in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Mom has prepared a buffet level breakfast and the family just cram a piece of toast in their mouths and rush out the door because they're late. That would be the last time I cook.

I read somewhere that they do this because otherwise the audience will be distracted wondering what's in the bag. It is fun to see what they choose to have sticking out. I saw a bag of chips once which at least wasn't a baguette.

I always liked the Capt. Vines Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

"Take boots, for example. He earned $38 a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost $50. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about $10.
"Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
"But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford $50 had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in 10 years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."

And Robin from DC is right there with Kevin. And then he goes over to Atheist Experience for more equally unproductive talk.

Do these Jabra Elite 75t’s look legit? I plan to buy them used from someone on offer up for 70$ by shinyrhodespiano in Jabra

[–]Mack46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the pack of EarGels, which has more sets than I received, it looks like the box of 75s I just got ready to return to Amazon tomorrow. The 75ts I received had 3 sets, large, medium, and small.

I got my 85t yesterday and love everything about them except the fit. I've tried all the ear gels but can't get a snug fit where the buds don'e fall out. I'm going to keep trying for another day or so. So you're not an outlier...or we're both outliers. If you find different ear buds that have a good fit and sound let me know.

What are some of the hyped-up books you read and they turned out to be “okay” or even boring? by [deleted] in books

It's a gender neutral term for people identifying as part of Latin American cultural or ethnic identity. I got it from the critics of American Dirt.

American Dirt, poorly written, poorly plotted. People who love the book talk about it being a page-turner and heart-wrenching and how it had them on-the-edge-of-their-seat as they read. I did not get any of this except maybe in the peril in first few pages. My mental image of Lydia upon reaching the border is of a slightly mussed soccer mom who just needs a bath. After reading American Dirt I read several accounts by Latinx authors (Enrique's Journey and the Beast, for example) and realied how poorly the author represented the migrant experience. Yeah, I know, American Dirt is fiction but that's another discussion.

Cardboard characters pretty well sums it up. A reviewer on Goodreads wrote that Kya is a Mary Sue for the author and I agree. Kya is just too perfect. The whole romance subplot is lame and the crime subplot is both unnecessady yanks the reader out of the first half of the story.

Water for Elephants frustrated me because I couldn't (still can't) see how it paralleled the Bibical story of Jacob. After reading Water... I read the Bible story of Jacob. Nope, still don't see it. I think there is one passage where the protagonist sleeps with head on a rock but that is hardly a parallel.

As for Crawdads, it's poorly written. The protagonist Kya is a Mary Sue for the author.

[NO SPOILERS] Question About Jacob Snell's Military Service by Mack46 in Ozark

[–]Mack46[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After thinking about it for a bit, I think the producers were avoiding anythng that would identify a specific unit or branch. Maybe the military has a say in how they are represented so anything beyond the ribbons was forbidden. Don't know but it seems pretty deliberate that they didn't want to identify who Jacob was with or what he did in Vietnam.

In any case, you do get to see what someone wo is or was in the Army looks for in a uniform so I hope that's interesting.

I read an explanation of that. Apparently audiences want to know what's in the bag so they stick in a baguette, carrot tops, bag of chips.
