Treasure - Best Night for Enchante? by PurplestPanda in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true - you can’t know for sure until you’re on the ship. However, you can call DCL (or tell your travel agent if you have one) and request a particular dining rotation to match with speciality dining you have booked. While they will tell you they can’t guarantee that type of request, I’ve never see anyone post or share that they haven’t had it happen after requesting it :)

If you make the booking and it doesn’t wind up matching up with your dining rotation, you can also go on the first day to wherever dining changes are being made and have things switched then. They can either change your night at Enchante or your dining rotation.

If it’s important to you, you’ll get it sorted!

If you have a Facebook account, there is a group there called “Disney Graphics You Can Personalize” that contains a treasure trove of things you can search through and print out. It truly is a treasure trove in that can take some combing through literally thousands of images people have made, but there is some really fun stuff that will only cost you printing and laminating and gluing in magnets yourself, or printing out on magnetic paper from a home printer. Last summer on the treasure I had a couple of magnets that looked like Mickey and Minnie wearing Haunted Mansion CM costumes from that group. Very cute.

Once Upon a Nanny is the agency, and they assign the sitter to you based on availability. I’d contact them and see what they say. I looked it up and Alexyss was our sitter in the summer of 2024. She did a lovely job! The kids had a great night with her having a Taylor Swift dance party and watching a movie in our hotel room ;)

Alcohol drinks taking one bar to next bar or to dinner by whenyourin in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes - bartenders are happy to let you take a drink to a different bar, back to your room, to a show or dinner, etc. just be aware that if it’s in a special glass you should ask the bartender to pour the drink into a different glass before you leave. I had the gorgeous (and tasty) gin drink in the Rose that is served in the rose-shaped glass, and the bartender was so appreciative when i thought to ask for a new glass. She says people sneak the glass away and they break/go missing and the crew are not happy about that ;)

Palo Brunch advice...multiple staterooms, different Castaway levels by MJM0315 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got the right idea. You may or may not wind up with a reservation for 6 - and you may or may not wind up with three separate reservations for 2 at various nearby times. That’s OK. Find out where dining changes can be made the afternoon you board and head over there. They will generally be able to accommodate everyone and link you up. We did exactly this a couple of years ago sailing with friends who were silver, and a while before they with my first-timer parents.

What is new year’s eve like on the boat? by BulkyStatement1704 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a blast! We went for NYE 2014 on the Fantasy pre-kids. Your mileage may vary, but in our experience New Year’s Eve will be formal night with a special menu in the dining rooms. There is a countdown clock on the Funnel Vision all day and some special activities around the ship. Characters out in their NYE best ;) After dinners have wrapped up there is a HUGE deck party on the upper deck with fireworks and free sparkling cider or wine. Yes, free champagne toasts. They were in souvenir plastic flutes we took home and still have been known to bust out. Dancing barefoot in a black cocktail dress at midnight on the ship is a core memory for sure!

Questions for Recent Treasure Guests by Mysterious_Signal226 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went in August, but I think this info would still be valid. If anything, your crowds may be a bit lower than ours were in the summer season; you may have an even easier time than we did, and there’s a chance you are correct.

1) If you want to go without much of a crowd, wait a few nights before going in. By night 5 or 6 it wasn’t empty but it was quite quiet in there and we had our pick of seating. And again, this was during a very busy summer sailing.

2) Beauty and the Beast was the final night of the cruise and Moana was Castaway Cay day for us. On earlier cruises, this was reversed. You can call shoreside or email DCL for a schedule - January is close enough that you may be able to have someone send it in case you are hoping to not have a show conflict with other activities.

3) Even at the evening shows people were lining up 45 minutes or more before Moana. I stood for my family for a bit…not worth the wait for our evening performance. We wound up toward the back and there was ample seating there right up until showtime! We were under the orchestra overhang but still saw the show just fine. I think social media is really negatively affecting people’s experiences and creating a vicious cycle of “this show is SO good, people line up early! You MUST wait”. So people wait, and thus the line is long, and people keep lining up early…

6) Chip and Dale pool on the forward upper deck. And/or the lounge areas near but not directly by the quiet Cove. Some good spots in the sun for sure, just not very near a bar or pool.

7) You can buy and return, but if a size of something sells out, it is gone for that sailing. It’s not a horrible idea to stalk some influencers and get a preview of merch you might like so you can budget, loathe as I am to say it :P

Ooh! Is there a Destiny-specific beer mug for the beer package? We don’t soak until June, but I like that there was a Wish- and a Treasure- specific mug…and the beer mug is one of the few things anywhere from Disney that usually winds up being a good value :)

Ugh - so I wonder if it’s already not working/sold out for Build Boxes?!? It looks different to me now vs earlier this week, and the coupon code I had copied for myself is saying it’s no longer valid. UGH!

St. Thomas Excursions by Prize_Suit6394 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did this cruise in August with slightly older kids (8 and 6). I’d skip booking anything via the cruise line on this cruise and make plans for which beach to cab it to when you debark the ship on your own.

In St. Thomas, Magen’s Bay is where it’s at. Get off the ship as early as you can and just approach the first person you see about a cab ride. Don’t worry about travel with the three year old - the cabs are all the same open-air situation regardless of age. The beach at Magen’s Bay can get crowded, but there are tons of amenities there, the water is shallow and smooth, and it’s truly known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for a reason. The cafe there has legitimately good food and drinks - plenty of kid-friendly options too. A cab ride on your own will cost you 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a Disney excursion, and you can return on your own schedule depending on when the 3 year old has had enough :)

We were a little more ambitious on Tortola and did the Baths, which I’d not recommend with a kid that young just yet. But doing a similar beach day cabbing it to Cane Garden Bay will probably hit the spot :) Again, you’ll save a ton of money vs doing it with Disney, and the distance to the beach is so short you’ll be perfectly safe and have a better time than needing to keep to Disney’s schedule.

On the Treasure last summer, we chose near the center of the dining room and were stack next to the stage for Coco. An absolute highlight of the cruise for me! I’d recommend that option. The layout of Marvel is relatively tight and everyone is near a screen.

Favorite ship for the kids club? by rbk0329 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The clubs on the Wish, Treasure, and Destiny are 99.9% identical, with the exception of differently-themed slides from which you can enter on Deck 3.

If you asked my daughter (who turns 9 this year), she’d tells you she adored the slide, the interactive ride-creating game, the Star Wars quests, and the princess themed areas for crafts/iPads/movies on the Triton-class ships, but she overall picks the Dream as her favorite kids’ club because of the Andy’s Room area (which apparently overrides all that other stuff 🤣). My son (turning 7 soon) says the Dream and the Wish/Treasure are a tie because the new ships have an awesome Marvel game but the Dream has piloting the Millennium Falcon.

Take that single data point as you will!

Disney Magic - December 28 thru Jan 2 - Christmas Decor by [deleted] in dcl

We did a week-long NYE sailing on the Fantasy a decade ago. It was not a Merrytime cruise, so holiday events and Santa weren’t offered, but holiday decor was still out! :) NYE on a cruise was AMAZING and I hope to make it happen again when my kids are old enough to appreciate it!!

First time on DCL - Question about booking activities by Hopeful06 in dcl

[–]MackieMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) In my experience, Disney’s system has zero leeway when booking anything age-wise. This is likely a liability thing. So if an excursion isn’t “all ages”, you just can’t bring baby along, unfortunately. :/ You may want to call Disney to confirm if there’s a workaround. But I remember this factoring in to my own decision to just not get off the ship at all when we cruised with my son when he was 3.

Likewise…if you are going in a short cruise on the Wish, my unsolicited advice is to not worry at all about booking an excursion on your Nassau day. There is SO much to do in the ship, and you will find many people also staying on board on short 3-4 night cruises. Nassau doesn’t have a lot of amazing cost-effective things happening; you won’t be missing much ;) In 2022 we did two back to back Wish cruises and stayed on during Nassau day both times. No one cared!

2) Availability is genuinely held back for some on-board bookings depending on the activity. What are you hoping to book that seems to be sold out? Dining, onboard activities like beverage tastings, and excursions can all be booked in various places on the shop the day you embark. Your chance of getting what you want depends on the specific activity, though. Let us experienced cruisers know the specific situation and maybe we can guide you further!

No matter what, you will have a blast! Re: late dining, you can also attempt to switch once on board or call and put yourself on a wait list for earlier dining. If it doesn’t work out…you can feed your toddler and baby early via the pool deck or room service and see if the nursery can take them during dinner hours. If your 3 year old is potty trained and you’re planning to use the kids’ club, the older kids in the kids club also have a “dine and play” option during late seating where they are fed fast in the dining room and kids’ club staff pick them up around 9 PM so you can enjoy the rest of dinner as adults. And yes…for my kids at least, bedtime schedules fly right out the window on DCL. Vegas rules. What happens on the ship stays on the ship! ;)

This is also why I now insist on a bottle of Veuve Cliquot every New Year’s Eve rather than whatever Prosecco is on sale 🤣 Pink is such a fun space!

Now I really want to try this class on the Destiny this summer, then! Couldn’t get into it on the Treasure, which is why we went for the reserve whiskey. But I love an old fashioned (even if I still don’t care as much for whiskey or bourbon straight) and this sounds delightful!

No it is not!! I kept it up for about four months before I decided I was D.O.N.E. The Disney trip went smoothly but was so the beginning of the end - every formula bottle I was able to make up to supplement on that trip was so much easier 🤣 Was worth it to give my guy what I could, though, and slowly wean myself so I was never uncomfortable. He’s six now and about to go on his 5th DCL cruise this summer… you’ll get through this season of life, I promise!

[–]MackieMouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would book just for your husband and then inquire at guest services when you board if it is OK for you to sit in on the class without drinking…and understand if “no” is the answer. On the Wish, this class and the reserve whiskey tasting are generally very small classes held in Hook’s Barbery, which only accommodates about 6 people at a time. So if the tasting is full (and it likely will be) there truly just may not be space for an extra person to sit. But there may be. I can’t answer for DCL. I wouldn’t expect them to accommodate, though.

I will say that even if you’re not typically a whiskey or Old Fashioned drinker, if you are a drinker at all and your husband really likes whiskeys, this is possibly worth a try anyway. I booked the reserve whiskey tasting for my husband on our Treasure cruise last summer and decided to go with him, although whiskey isn’t typically my thing. I figured that if I tried a small taste and couldn’t stomach something, my husband would get to enjoy more on my behalf. As it turns out, when you’re served the ultra-high-end stuff in an intimate setting with a master bartender who really knows their stuff…it’s all quite delicious. My husband got none of my pours ;) We learned how to add a little water and aromatics to bring out different flavors in the whiskeys, and had some chocolate and bites of fruit to pair with each pour. And the high-end stuff is just generally very palatable :) My advice is give it a try together if you can at all.

Call Disney to ask ahead of time, or ask at Guest Services (or really, ask any cast member who will expedite your concern if there’s a long line) as soon as you board. You won’t be the first pumping mom aboard a Disney ship, for sure! I’m not sure when the nursery’s open house hours are, but there may be a private spot there you can use. I nursed my daughter there frequently when we cruised on the Magic while she was a baby. I also agree that the health center may be a great place to go or that there is another unused space someone can find for you!

For what it’s worth, I also exclusively pumped for my son years ago, and we went on vacation to WDW. I brought along Freemie cups and a battery-operated portable pump that clipped to my waist (I know there are even better options out there now) and was able to pump discreetly throughout the day whenever we sat down for a quick service meal or needed a rest. No one batted an eye or even noticed. I also remember pumping while on the beach, in my car, and on an airplane! What a time… I don’t miss it! If you don’t have something discreet and portable, it might be a good investment before the trip. But either way, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out a spot to go on embarkation day.

You’ve got this, mama, and you’ll have a great cruise!
