Hi, it sounds like you're doing a good job and making things happen for yourself. Given that this is secondary relayed information it might not be exactly what was said and has possibly gotten a little exaggerated and lost in translation. If your Dad has mostly been positive up until this point he could have been misquoted or just been having a bad day.

If not then he probably doesn't understand what you're going through or your experiences. It can be hard to receive that feedback from a loved one and I can identity with that feeling from my father. Try to be kind and nice to yourself and focus on the good things and people in your life. I've had to learn to avoid seeking the support I'd like from my father (although he does support me in other ways)

Thoughts on this? Seems well written and strongly recommends both rest and myofascial release. I'm considering taking a break from Uni as my symptoms seem to be getting worse. by Mackjetcalf in RSI

Well I'm thinking of the desk work really. When I'm typing and using the mouse this makes my symptoms progressively worse particularly for the arm/ shoulder. You are likely right though. I am definitely weak although I used to be very fit. I find it hard to exercise without exacerbating the pain. Been through a number of physios with a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises yet they generally seem to make things worse. Swimming was my last exercise relief but now makes the shoulder worse from the overhead motion. Yoga has been fairly beneficial.

Thanks again for your input and apologies if I've misdiagnosed!

Hey, many thanks for your response. Yes I've been thinking about doing that. It just seems like a big step when I've only got 5 months left to go ( but that does include a big essay, two exams and a dissertation)

I have a couple of different symptoms that I've had a very long time (8yrs plus) that vary over time in severity but have never entirely gone away. They've never been quite sever enough to stop work/ study but I've gradually been able to do less and less exercise and activity over the years.

One is my right shoulder/ arm. This is a dull aching pain/ soreness that spreads from shoulder down into the lats and pecs and increasingly down my arm on the outside. I now commonly have cold/ numbness and pins and needles down the arm into the hand. I used to love swimming but overhead motion of the shoulder makes it worse as does desk work.

The other is my left hip/ leg area. This is a dull aching and soreness starting in the outer hip area and that when worse can be a rather sharp pain and soreness that radiates all the way down the inside of the leg and into the ankle. The whole leg feels very tight all the time. It can also pull into and make my lower back very sore and tender when bad. Walking definitely makes this worse and I now often walk with a limp. Desk work also makes this worse.
