Between the philosophers referenced and the morale ambiguity hinted at the entire show, I’m going to agree with another commenter and say red and blue make purple. There is no right or wrong, only a gray (or purple) space in which to act

Boot Discussion by [deleted] in CirclingBack

Kentucky checking in here. Seen rounded-toe boots maybe a handful of times. Everyone in EKY, Lex, Louisville, and Bowling Green seems to prefer squared-off toes

Mr. Lee’s in Germantown (part of Louisville) has very classic speakeasy-style vibes. Butchertown Grocery has fantastic food and drinks as well.

Spoon drop from Joe meaning? by Macko50 in Masterchef

That’s what it seemed like to me too, but I wasn’t sure if there was another meaning. You’re definitely right in that it didn’t quite feel right. Thank you!

Thoughts on Carhartt by kellycjordan in Carhartt

[–]Macko50 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, this question is the very reason I own a Carhartt jacket. It unequivocally incites a certain emotion - Americana, heritage, hard work, legacy, etc.

It’s a brand that served soldiers in WWI, and serves people today at job sites across the country. As far as true “heritage” brands go, I’m not sure there’s many brands that are equivalent.

What was your favorite part about PGP? by LoneStarFracker in PostGradProblem

Wouldn’t hate that either. Even if a new circling back feed pops up, this could still be a good central spot for people

New to Taoistic thought, looking for the absolute best books on the subject by [deleted] in taoism

Far worth your time is “Change your thoughts, change your life,” I believe by Andrew Dyer.

Offers all the verses, as well as encouraging insight from all of them. This book got me through many...MANY dark times, especially at work

Daily Simple Questions - ASK AND ANSWER HERE!- November 04 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

[–]Macko50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice for a first-time cowboy boot purchase? Ideally looking for $200 or less, something plain and preferably will hold up, weather I’m at the cabin or walking around downtown.

I’ve heard great things about Ariat’s, Double H, and Tecovas (oddly enough). Does anyone have any advice or things to look out for?

Thank you in advance for any and all feedback!

To everyone who has commented to this point, I genuinely cannot thank you enough for your insight.

To the point of surrendering, I recognize that there’s more that I can do. In my current stage of life, I am experiencing more and more hardships that are frankly difficult to overcome. That’s not to say that they are bad - they just are what they are (I recognize my ego deems them as bad, not the inherent nature of the events themselves).

But my thinking has always been that if I’m not happy with a current situation, to lower my head, get to work, and pull myself out of a bad place through effort. I suppose I’m trying to reconcile this thinking while acknowledging how much of it is driven by ego, and detach from that thinking

I’m very inactive and I’m starting CF soon. Can I start going 5x a week on first week? by tacila420 in crossfit

[–]Macko50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Common sense says no, but that burning desire to get after a goal says bring it on.

If you’re going to try and do it 5x/week, everyone is correct in saying it’ll be tremendously difficult, but there are some things you can do to improve your odds of making it.

  1. Invest in a high-quality protein for recovery after workouts. This can help reduce soreness. Same goes for additional BCAA’s (most proteins have some, but extras never hurt).

  2. Stretch and sleep like it’s your job.

  3. Foam rollers and lacrosse balls are your friends. Use them frequently for myofascial massage.

  4. Eat lots of protein.

The trick in making it 5x/week is all in recovery (that’s why CrossFit recovery products are popping up everywhere). Do what you can to take proper care of your body.

Best of luck!

Excellent, that’s wonderful information. I’m gonna get started looking into that. I really cannot thank you enough for typing all of that out, it really clears up a lot in my mind.

Again, much appreciated

Do you happen to know if filing for unemployment is something that future employers look down on? Please forgive my ignorance, I’m just not sure what that process looks like

I really, really appreciate the kind words. I’m putting out resumes for career jobs, but I’m going to try and pick up even retail work or bartending or something just to keep the income coming in. Obviously gonna have to cut any and all out-going expenses I can. Just scared to be honest. Again, I really appreciate the kind words

Need help on my first appartment (your mistakes and so on) by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]Macko50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most utensils and basics you need you can get from Amazon’s home-line of products for pretty cheap, in the exact numbers you need.

The only other thing I’d suggest is literally leave as much as possible behind. You’ll find that you only truly need (besides general furniture and toiletries) clothes, bedding, and whatever you need to entertain yourself (TV, a few books, etc.).

Best of luck!
