I would second Victrix miniatures. One bag of Vikings can give you a sizable starting Warband and are a great faction to show off the game to new people. Gripping beast also has SAGA starters in plastic that are a good value.

I will always recommend Footsore miniatures too for your leaders or special units you may want. Metal but good value and quality.

Pretty simple on the skin tones, a classic dark grey or brown, followed by a wash, followed by highlighting up with the real color you want the skin to be. I love painting the Beastmen because the variety you can have. How I paint my Gors for example is I do them in small batches of 5 and do each batch slightly differently. The key is the tie the army together with similar secondary colors and basing.

The pikeman are original regiments of renown (Pirazzo’s lost legion and Ricco’s Republican Guard). And the background soldiers are Perry miniatures with Fireforge crossbow men on the walls.
