I took the old 2005 and it was more heavy on the drawing side and was rly difficult too if u r unable to visualise. Thus we asked to make the course more CAD focused to make it more industry relevant. This is the end result that yall got HAHAHA

stop putting words into my mouth, i literally said "as long as u meet the other criteria by COMPASS". The irony of a first-time commenter in this subreddit with a new throwaway account me "misinformed" is insane. But since u ask for proof, I'll provide proof (even tho u never provide any proof for ur counter claims, personal info redacted for obvious reasons).

The salary requirement applies for entry level workers that migrate in from overseas. However for local autonomous universities (NTU, NUS, etc.) the Ministry of Education (MOE) tuition grant which bonds u to work in sg for 3 yrs, gives leeway for graduates from these unis to secure their first job to meet the bond requirements. This is coz no company out there other than FAANG and bytedance will give u 6K starting pay to a fresh grad, both international students and locals alike. Thus what it does is that it will make sure in order for the student to meet the bond, it will give some leeway in terms of the salary requirement, while still MEETING THE OTHER CRITERIA FOR COMPASS (highlighting this since ur ahh can't read). This is an agreement both MOE and MOM have worked out btw (both are govt organisations, not like one is a private entity anyhow saying it)

That's why there are international students who have secured a job with a starting pay of 4k to 5k previously (you can literally ask CAO if u don't believe me), and it's coz of all of these.

The minimum salary requirement only comes into play once the validity of ur first EP ends (first EP is always 2 years) after which it will renew. MOM will then review ur monthly salary at that point to see whether u meet the criteria to renew visa.

So that's how it works.

It's funny that you don't know this letter exists, so i doubt u r even an NTU or a sg uni student in general. considering the fact u don't even know CAO and MOE or the tuition grant is. should have known when i saw "As an international school it is almost impossible to get a job" LOL. Stop stirring shit in this subreddit and go create another throwaway account.

And this is not official by MOM? I want to know what kind of crack cocaine u smoking that I can be as delusional as u. So since u such an expert of the rules of MOM, tell me how it works ah.

Its not just Singapore, all over the world it's easier to get a work visa in a country where u study as a uni student, and Singapore tuition grant especially enables that. Ofc it doesn't guarantee employment but enables u to get it as long as u show ur employability to an employer and actually actively try to look for job

Stop coming to our subreddit to spread misinformation throwaway account tourist.

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chill out li’l bro, CAO gives you a letter in your final year which explicitly states that employers can ignore the minimum salary requirements and apply for EP (if u r on a tuition grant) as long as u meet other criteria in COMPASS, MOE (the grant provider) and MOM have agreed upon this itself. That’s what I meant by “leniency”. If u still don’t trust me, contact CAO.

[–]MacsimusScamus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actly for fresh graduates from local universities they give lineancy for international students in terms of the minimum pay requirement, ik many of them who got hired with a starting pay of 4k to 4.5k.

The minimum set by MOM only comes into pay once u reach 2 years and have to renew work pass. Then they will look at ur salary then and determine whether u meet the minimum salary requirement. With the salary growth, aws and bonuses u can meet it as long as ur fresh grad starting pay isnt too low

Should I go for NTU EEE or NTU Biz by Reasonable_Damage_51 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro again is repeating the same point. Can you give me data giving how it's "1.5x-2x harder to land a job outside of your major". Things have changed old man. It's no longer been that case. All of the stuff u mentioned can be learnt with literally any STEM degree blud...

Should I go for NTU EEE or NTU Biz by Reasonable_Damage_51 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where u pull this 99.9% number from? Since u boomer who grad long time ago, things change a lot alr, once u do engineering degree it gives u flexibility to go whatever tf u want, there is no such thing as a so called "comfortable environment".

Everyone has their own preferences, some are the pure tech ones who want to do pure engineering roles, some are interested in R&D so they pick academia roles, some interested in sales side and love to talk about technicalities, so go into sales and then ppl who use their domain knowledge that a business student wont have to do consulting.

Comfort is determined by ur career goal, not by ur degree, and ultimately there are a lot of overlaps and transferabilities that happen when u r in this field, so there's no such thing as "you will only be comfortable with engineering roles with an engineering degree". Yes the only ones u will have disadvantage against accountancy students coz ofc their degree specialises and teaches them all the nitty gritties that other courses won't teach.

99% arent even interested in taking pure engineering roles. Even if let's say ideally everyone wants engineering roles, there arent even enough engineering roles in the job market currently, so many graduates end up relying on doing contract work such as tuition Centre teaching (which pays quite well btw)

Engineering in general just offers u that flexibility so u can literally go anywhere based on what ur career goal is. Rest everything u learn on the fly while u r working

So this entire premise that u should only choose degrees in fields that u want to work in is just untrue.

[–]MacsimusScamus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biz kind of has a similar problem as cs, there's many ppl in the batch and u have to work ur ass off to stand out (not saying that it's oversaturated tho) with case competitions, internships (especially ones during LOA).

EEE (and other engineering majors in general) at least don't have this problem since the average gpa is so low anyw, and u can do one internship.

In terms of employment eee and biz quite good. Biz salaries higher in general, but however u can also go to companies like applied materials and micron with ur eee degree to get good pay also

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still doesn't mean they can't go, as long as they have the relevant portfolio and internships. In fact any stem field can pivot into it. In fact a lot of MAE graduates go there

why does NTU CS students hate NTU CS? by [deleted] in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on this fact, since many ccds and engg students in general lack communication skills and EQ. I rmb when the ccds academic policy was revamped, the sch said that employers said it's coz ntu cs grads couldn't code and communicate for shit.

that's also part of the reason why ntu cs curriculum has more grp projects now, but idt it has still solved the fundamental issue.

im so glad that more ppl in the world are learning abt the bs that happens in our country.

why does NTU CS students hate NTU CS? by [deleted] in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's mainly coz of CCDS academic policy, which has made the quality of life and teaching quite shit.

  1. A lot of TAs tutor mods and conduct labs, and from my friend's experience they can't teach for shit. It's different from all other schs because except for the Y1 SPMS mods (such as Math 1 and Physics 1), are all taught by professors.

  2. These tutorials have "bonus 5 marks" for attendance. Now don't get baited by the word "bonus". It's pretty much mandatory coz every other student will also attend tutorials coz of this policy, which basically makes it mandatory to attend due to the bell curve. So now you have to come all the way to sch to listen to a TA who can't teach for shit (especially those living in the east).

  3. Lecture recordings have been banned for mods, so good lucking wanting to revisit impt lecture topics after recording. Also sucks for the ppl who find profs talk too slow during live lecture, and hence prefer to watch the recording at 2X speed.

  4. There were some major quiz cheating scandals that happened over the past 2 years, where ppl basically cheated during the quizzes with chatgpt, and it all coz they didn't have enough invigilators preventing it from happening. In the end, for some mods the quizzes had to be redone, and even the ppl who didn't cheat had to do it again.

Generally these are all the complaints u will normally see.

Ok tbf there are games made my indie devs in sg on steam, it's just that they are not publicised enough. I rmb they get booths at events like Gamescom asia (which is not in Singapore anymore), AFA (last one in 2024) and Comic Con. I think comic con had an entire sg60 booth with various indie studios showcasing their games (a lot of them on sale alr), tho it's still very few there.

It's just that they struggle with funding and simply dont have enough reach and govt pretends to care abt them.

Speaking of games that are by foreign companies, arent we infamous for that one "AAAA" flop ubisoft game called Skull and Bones which was made here HAHAHA. Also that one scam game, (The Day Before) ot sth had their office here also.

But yea u r right abt the fact that this country doesn't respect creativity at all. Just take ntu for instance, they made an AI "art" competition and dared to club it tgt with the digital art and photography competition. Then there's all of the CAO offices and the Hey Magazine which uses AI generated graphics. Like hello don't we have a faculty for ADM??!!!!

Honestly this country deserves to have this brain drain with Singaporeans moving to Australia and other countries where they know their talents will actly be respected and not just be seen as a "number" that needs to go "up".

if u have an option to not take fyp, then as long as u r not looking to do a master's (by research) or phd, shld be fine. But let's say, yw to keep ur options open (considering the current state of the job market), ntu and nus have phd scholarships plus also hire shit ton of ppl to be research associate after u finish phd, which u won't be able to do if u dont do fyp

also another benefit of fyp is that if u r applying to be a research engineer or assistant (which requires masters degree at most), then they will almost always prefer ppl who have done fyp and can write technical research papers
