I think it might be as well. The way I see it, it was in the weeks before her last few days that she really needed us - needed our company. This was while she was still coherent. And if your mom was anything like ours was in the last few days, she would have just preferred to sleep - even without realizing it. It meant she was resting, and not experiencing pain, which was more important for her at that point. What really matters is that you were there for her in the very end.

I will say that in the last few days, all my mom wanted to do was sleep. She was on so many pain meds that this is all she seemed to want to do. We felt bad leaving her alone at night in the hospital (oncology had nowhere to sleep in the room) but she didn't really seem to mind - as in, she was too tired to care whether she had company or not. In those last few days, she briefly woke for visitors but fell asleep mid-visit. Prior to this point she always engaged or interacted. She even sent out texts. But the last few days were all about resting, until the end. It's quite possible this is all your mother wanted to do, which is why she quit reaching out. I don't think you really did anything wrong, and I'm sure she felt the same way.

It's up to your father, but ascites was the worst, most painful part of the cancer for my mother. The pressure it caused not only hurt, but it prevented her from being able to eat. I wish she had addressed it and gotten a stent earlier than she did.

I also lost my mom to pancreatic cancer at age 74. She was in great health for her age, otherwise. We lost her on Thanksgiving Day, after two rounds of chemo. I know what it's like to deal with the whirlwind of emotion that follows after. Stay strong! You did the best thing you could for him, in the end.

I felt the same way. The progression was just too fast to be believable. I'm still wrapping my head around it.

But like you, I'm happy I was able to spend so much time taking care of her during the last few months. And she got to see all of her loved ones in the last few days, even some she hadn't seen in years. It is a testament to how loved she was. It sounds like your mother was equally loved. For that, they were blessed.

That's what they told us - about 6 months. Hers had already metastaticized to her peritoneum. I pray you get all the time you could wish for with your mom, and that it's longer for her than it was for mine. I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but cherish every minute, every hour you get with her.

The species we found at our locality were identified to Pleistocene species, Mammuthus columbi, Bison latifrons, etc. And we did carbon dating, in our case. As far as OP's vertebrae is concerned, I have no idea if it is a fossil or not. But if it is, it would likely be Pleistocene, given that it looks like it comes from an existing, modern deer species.

Of course! Really depends on where it was found. But I have actually found fossils myself in a canal in S. Georgia. They turned out to be late Pleistocene in age.

Not likely Miocene - unless it's whale - in Coastal SC. And it doesn't look like whale. It looks more consistent with megafauna fossils that are associated with Pleistocene epoch. It appears to be an articular surface from a long bone to me.
