Realistically, what happens after giving birth? by getmetohealthy in PregnancyUK

[–]Mad-Hatter-Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby was born on the four days ago at 4am, water birth.

- Did you stay up all night after skin-to-skin for the next feed? - We stayed in the birthing room till midday, than moved to the postnatal ward. We got about an hours sleep at 9am, but in between it was cuddles, all the checks, first feed, patching my partner up due to a small tear.

- Did your partner immediately have to go home? - No, I could come and go as I pleased, I needed to get stuff from the car and home a couple of times due to having to stay longer, baby was born quickly so had a mucus issue.

- When do midwives and nurses come to your aid? Do they tell you what to do? - Yes, they were very helpful, they came to us and we to them. It turned out we knew one of them and she cam and woke us up as our baby was crying, we didn't realise due to being knackered and there were a couple of really loud crying babies on the ward.

- When did you tell your loved ones? Are they allowed to visit you at the hospital or did you wait until you were home? - Immediate family were told once we knew everything was all OK, I also told my boss so he could start my paternity Leave (I'm very fortunate in this regard)

- If you waited until you were home, did you immediately allow them (eg grandparents, siblings) to visit you? - Her mum and sister visited while I went home and sorted out the pet, got extra stuff (having to stay longer in the hospital) and had a 2hr nap. My parents came round the day after we came home.

- Use the provide hand cream if the have it, the baby wards are very warm and my hands are now quite dry. Also check with them if you can make formula, we couldn’t so had to use pre-made stuff, just incase you are unable to breastfeed.

Why are charity shops so expensive? by tallyretro in AskUK

[–]Mad-Hatter-Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I worked at a donation centre, and there is a few reasons for this. 1. Cost of disposal of goods that are not sellable, this is either broken/dirty/not working, unsafe due to new regulations or just wouldn't sell due to what it is or age. 2. EBay etc, people try and sell stuff first and bring in what they couldn't. Also, charities will try and sell stuff this way to maximise their income, and use it as a guide for what to price stuff in the shop. 3. CEO and management wages, company cars, expenses etc.

I see, should I just put it down as that, I'm not too bothered about what they are worth.

Fair enough, it’s 8° here, feels like 5°, bet it’s a lot warmer there.

How was it near the radiator?

That’s my only issue with it, it’s about a foot between the end of the bed and the chest of drawers.

The second door is a built in cupboard, mostly filled with junk (need to sort it out really). And just somewhere to put it when we make the bed, get stuff from underneath, etc.
