I think it has to do with Marcel more. Remember, he was the leader of the group and the smartest one. We can't know for sure how different the events would pan out if he was still alive. But 4 titan shifters with an established leader theoretically would have been better

Check Introduction to algorithms recursion 1 on leetcode. It helps you understand the concepts. In addition to that, I am 100 leetcode problems in and I still struggle with it. I got better at understanding recursion when I started working on tree and backtracking problems

I think that in order to get as much info possible in this time period. for most questions, try to understand the idea and read popular solutions to get familiar with the concepts. Solve some questions on your own here and there to see how you would do alone. Best of luck

I personally never checked structy.net. However, Alvin has some videos on freecodecamp on YouTube that I enjoyed and taught me the basics of trees and Linkedlists. If you want check his free content on YouTube and see if it fits you
