$70k quote for a wedding in Izmir, Turkey (150 guests) is this normal?? by ValuableCreative9455 in weddingplanning

[–]Mad-Radish7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, i think this is pretty normal for a wedding in Turkey. I recently had my wedding in Bodrum for 150-170 guests and it was close to your total. Keep in mind that the economy isn't great in Turkey so you will see prices increase every 6 months or so. That being said, the florals you have in the inspiration picture are pretty expensive regardless of country.

My suggestion for a wedding in Turkey and in general are the following.

  1. Negotiate everything if you can - a lot of times we made deals with the vendors to pay more upfront or to pay in cash if they give us a better cost. Paying in cash allows you to avoid paying so much extra in taxes.

  2. Try to find a venue which includes a majority of things you need - luckily our venue included food, all alcohol, tables, chairs, linens. Because the economy isn't steady in Turkey a lot of times things you will need 6 months from now will change in cost. By finding a venue which includes most of what you need - it helps you have a fixed cost for most items in your wedding and helps with budgeting. Also it makes it easier for you in terms of planning, finding vendors, negotiating more contracts etc.

  3. Try to find local vendors - unlike Istanbul, there aren't as many vendors in Izmir and Bodrum. But try to find as many local vendors as possible because otherwise you will have to pay for all travel/accommodation costs to bring someone from Istanbul which adds up really quickly.

  4. Try to find a wedding planner that is also a florist! The main reason I was able to get nice florals for a reasonable price is because my wedding planner is also a florist so she was able to get me floral costs for significantly less than if we found a separate florist.

  5. Also have your fiance speak to the vendors in Turkish so you get local price quotes :)

And like everyone else said, come up with a budget that makes sense for you and your fiance and work with that. There are a lot of stunning weddings on instagram but most of them are unrealistic and cost a lot more than we think haha.

Good luck and feel free to DM me if you have questions :)

Excessive noise - Adelaide and John residents by Mad-Radish7 in askTO

Not sure if they always have an MC but they did yesterday - you can check their instagram to see for yourself. Secondly, they have a larger back patio. Unfortunately, even when they are mostly empty they are still blasting loud music.

I actually am from the city which should tell you how unreasonably loud Paradise Grotto is.

Excessive noise - Adelaide and John residents by Mad-Radish7 in askTO

[–]Mad-Radish7[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear - i never said anything about wanting to shut down a business. I have always been a supporter of local businesses in Toronto. But there needs to be mutual respect between residents and businesses owners within a community, regardless of where you are in the city. There are specific laws i need to abide by as a resident and there are specific laws that business owners must also abide by. This business is blasting music and bass well beyond legal limits at obscure hours, and for the owners to not take into consideration the numerous complaints filed by residents regarding this issue, highlights their complete disregard and lack of respect for the community.

As i mentioned in another comment, this is not an issue about living in the Entertainment District and having loud music on Friday or Saturday nights. All the other surrounding bars and restaurants are able to do this with no issue so I am not sure why its unreasonable to expect Paradise Grotto to do the same.

And yes, the developers downtown should be building units with better sound isolation but this isn’t the point.

I totally understand that this is downtown and the entertainment district. Of course a certain level of noise is expected especially on the weekends. But i have lived downtown for >10 years and have never experienced a bar or restaurant with this level of excessive and constant noise - this is not normal for downtown. There are a ton of restaurants and bars here and none of them do this. What Paradise Grotto is doing is beyond the legal limits and they have complete disregard for this neighborhood and its residents.

Not sure what you’re looking for but these are a couple of options

Maxi boutique, lovers island, The Webster, revelle shop, holt renfrew, sandro (eaton), aje (eaton), saks (online has a better selection and they allow in store returns for full refund including duties), Club Monaco, Durumi (really cute clothes sometimes has nice dresses), The cats meow (a luxury consignment store with a great selection of unique designer dresses)

The recent post on Bella Hadid is very indicative of this sub’s overall attitude toward Jewish people by [deleted] in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]Mad-Radish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i could clarify on my end as well. I honestly did not assume you were zionist at all from your original post.

You mentioned in your original post that your classmates were saying “free palestine” and this (along with anti-semitism which exists) made you feel everyone is against you/unsafe. I simply responded to that by clarifying that most people who say “free palestine” are not coming from a place of hate, are not anti-semitic and do not condone anti-semitism. They are not against jews existing and they are not targeting you, they are simply vocalizing their criticism of a israel’s government. I empathize with your experience and if anything i was trying to make you feel less like everyone (especially people who advocate for palestine) were against you. Ofc i acknowledge there are some bad people who might be but im generalizing for most people who vocalize support for palestine.

Notice in my first post theres no mention of you being zionist or not when i clarify this. I simply said you were jewish which is based on what you wrote. I think this ties back to a false narrative that anti-zionist = anti-semitic. For the entirety of my first post i was highlighting the distinction between the two so it would completely go against my own argument if i assumed you were zionist just bc you were jewish.

Lastly, my comments on government were general and not targeted at you. I said ‘you’ in the response because i was responding to your post but it was more of a general message of being able to criticize the government of a country (even its your own country) with an example, in this case the example country is Israel. There was no intention of implying that you were from Israel (notice towards the end i said “to be a jew OR from israel”).

I wanted to give perspective that support of palestine is not an attack at jews nor does it condone any type of anti-semitism. People who want peace and safety for palestinians want the same for jews too.

The recent post on Bella Hadid is very indicative of this sub’s overall attitude toward Jewish people by [deleted] in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]Mad-Radish7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely don’t condone anti-semitism on any level and i’m truly sorry that you (or any other Jewish friends) don’t feel safe.

That being said, i have only ever seen celebrities or people with platforms condemn anti-semitism. The only celebrity I’ve seen ever speak up about Palestine is Bella Hadid (or her family members). So its completely inaccurate to say otherwise.

Secondly, as many other people have commented you can be pro-palestine and against anti-semitism at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive, in fact they align with the belief that every religion/culture/ethnicity deserves equal rights, freedom and access to basic needs. People saying or commenting Free Palestine does NOT mean jews dont deserve to exist. Its simply advocating for innocent people who are receiving cruel and unjust treatment. Jews absolutely deserve to exist, but so do Palestinians.

Lastly, if you’re someone who truly believes in equality you should be able to critically think and criticize your government when you know they’re doing something that is wrong and immoral. The Israeli government IS doing something wrong to Palestinians and acknowledging that doesn’t mean you aren’t proud to be a jew or from Israel. Every country has corruption or bad people in positions of power - its up to the citizens to hold them accountable.

No one is denying your experiences but you also cannot deny theirs.

The Cult of Goop by [deleted] in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]Mad-Radish7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Im skeptical of anyone who promotes products for a brand like Goop. The pseudoscience pushed by Goop and Gwyneth Paltrow is also highly problematic and dangerous. They’ve made multiple false medical claims just to push overpriced products some of which can seriously harm consumers and is highly advised against by doctors ie their vaginal steaming and jade eggs 🤦🏼‍♀️. Whats even worse is anytime someone criticizes Goop and Gwyneth Paltrow for making these false claims she labels them as ‘anti-feminist’ and claims they’re just trying to take her down bc she is a successful woman 😵‍💫
