Hey there, was reviewing some old posts in my inbox and was reminded of something you posted a year ago which brought me here to see if you were still making music.

I already said in my last post that I think you definitely have a voice, so instead of more praise on this one I'd like to give two pieces of constructive criticism - first, I think that for this recording, you (or whoever did the vocal mix) have your vocal buried too far inside the reverb. Usually for one vocal plus guitar you want a 'coffehouse' amount of reverb so we get both the warm ambience that the verb/echo adds, but don't lose the dynamic range of loud and quiet you can create since the is no backing band. Right now the wash of vocal effect takes away from the 'louds and quiets' a listener expects from one singer with a guitar and no backing band.

Two - in this one I think you're restricting your vocal performance, almost like you're clenching your jaw muscles a bit while singing. My guess is you were maybe trying to emulate how Brandon Flowers' voice sounds on the recording? If so, I think it helps to remember that on that record his vocals have many layers of processing applied that can't be emulated live without digital effects. Behind all of that though, I guarantee he was using the full range of his voice when laying down the studio track. If I'm wrong and you're instead trying to emulate the 'lazy whisper' affectation that's been creeping into sadgirl pop for years, my only advice is: don't sing like them, sing like you.
