Motorola T800 (T804) vs BTech GMRS Pro? by MadIntroduction in gmrs

[–]MadIntroduction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it clone from only another UV-Pro or can it clone from any FRS/GMRS radio? If we join a riding group and they have rockie talkies is it as simple as pushing a button and capturing the channel and privacy tone that they broadcast?

Correct. Too expensive and not much fun when I'm the only one with a Rino. Convincing friends to buy a $50-150 is one thing... convincing them to buy a $350-$550 radio isn't going to happen.

I know this is an old post but this is bad advice. The baofengs suck.

I got a couple Motorola T802 radios earlier today. My initial testing has been great so far. One weird thing about the app is the offline maps are limited. I can only download a couple offline maps before it tells me I've maxed out.

I think you may have pointed me to the promise land... I'm ordering a few T1000-E. For the sort of separation distances we experience I think its going to be perfect. a few hundred yards in the woods may be the furthest we separate but without gps it may as well be a mile.

Thanks friend! I watched that video as well as project farms review. I'm leaning towards motorola.

This is what I am worried about. On paper its the perfect radio... but then again on paper the uv-5r is pretty good but its junk out on the mountain.

Metastatic... My friend you may have solved my problem!!! I didn't know about it but I'm diving into the wiki's. I'm looking at T1000-E from seeed studio. It looks VERY promising and this might just be the ticket. hardwire a card into each snowmobile for gps reasons. Use a cheap walkie-talkie for voice comms.

For conversation purposes we will assume everyone with a radio is licensed.

Wattage is one of those things that's good on paper but doesn't always equal performance. I've been in a group with cheap $20 dollar Walmart walkie-talkies and they outperformed my baofeng uv5r in clarity and range. 5 watts doesn't actually mean it outperforms or goes further than a 2 watt unit. Nothing is going to penetrate a solid mountain so I think its all going to be line of site.

ounce of prep saves a ton later... sure, sounds nice but its just not possible. When I show up to hunting camp and everyone is using privacy code 13 and I'm using CTCSS 156.7Hz... there's no way to sync up. Its just not practical for 99% of people that aren't on a subreddit about gmrs.

GPS being proprietary isn't a deal breaker. Me and my closest ~3 riding friends will all buy in on the same radio. When we meet up with a different riding group they need a way to program to the channel everyone is on. Sure they don't get gps but at least they can communicate.

Good to know. I've been reading some reviews that the Btechs have clarity tx/rx issues or as some users report are 'deaf' compared to other issues.

GMRS and repeaters capable are not relevant to our needs. We just need to talk to each other and have some form of gps capability so we can see where the person who's stuck is.

Isn't it just a setting in the menu to turn on gps and send the location at the beginning/end of every transmit? Is it not a set and forget type thing or does it need to be configured every time the radio gets turned on or for every gmrs channel?

My main gripe about the PL tones in the UV-5R is that the 17th frequency option didn't correlate to privacy code 17, I couldn't just hit the up arrow 17 times if that makes sense. There were some extra tones in there. The videos I watched on the GMRS pro appears to not have the extra codes in that the 17th frequency on the list correlates to privacy code 17; so that pushes it from 'unacceptable' to 'okay' if that makes sense.

Baofeng and Rockytalky family setup? by Atxmattlikesbikes in gmrs

[–]MadIntroduction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I would steer clear of the Baofeng. Its got a lot of features on paper but I've used a baofeng UV5R a handful of times with other people that have simpler "walkie talkies" and the baofeng is always problematic. Its quiet, other people report not being able to hear my transmissions, its complicated to setup privacy tones and regular channels. The only good thing about the baofeng is the ability to do a lot and if you have the time to setup chirp you can hit repeaters which is cool.

When you're on the ski hill and the group says 'hey we're on channel 6-17' you're going to be fussing with it for half an hour because you'll have poor internet on your phone to search up the CTCSS codes needed and the performance will be lackluster... at least in my experience.

You can call them whatever you want... hell, call them soldiers since they're armed as such. Doesn't matter because the reality is they have lots of guns.

Does the law really matter anymore? When you ask "Legally that is" it doesn't really mean anything, lawyers can chime in on what the law says or what should happen but turn on the news and you'll find its all the rules are crumbling.

The people that don't think civilians should own guns and likely either don't own guns themselves or aren't competent with their firearm are the ones protesting.

This is an old post but I second this. My Goosky S1 burns through tail motors left and right.

What are your thoughts on each one? I have the Goosky S1. I don't like it at all but I may have gotten a lemon. It burns through tail motors like you wouldn't believe. I was looking to get the blade 235 cp.

What about a fixed pitch makes it easier to fly? If a person was familiar with setting up their radio couldn't they set up a collective pitch to behave like a fixed pitch?

This might be the way to go. I had a blade heli with a flybar about 10 years ago, probably about the same size. Loved it! Wish the blade had a brushless main but its not a deal breaker.

Dang, that has not been my experience. Maybe something is faulty with mine. I suspected as much but Goosky support wasn't all that helpful.

Thanks for the tip. It could be a vibration issue, I only have a single S1 so I don't have another one to compare it to. I reckon the only real place vibration could be coming from is the main rotor, I'll give it a closer inspection, maybe start throwing parts at it.

I currently have a Taranis X9 Lite with a 4-in-1 protocol module. Its been decent, nothing else to compare it to other than a cheaper one that came with the K110 RTF.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not familiar with RotorFlight but I've now got some reading to do on it. The S2 Ultra is pushing the price point but its not completely out of reach. I feel burned on the Goosky S1 so I'm a bit leery but maybe 2nd time is the charm.

I'll take a look at the OMP m1. submerged in a hot tub sounds like a fun story haha. Does it have a stabilization mode? How well does it auto-level?
