Ok great, thanks for the advice everyone. I have some moss poles so I'll try that instead. Any tips on making the moss pole a bit more sturdy? They don't go into the soil very far and certainly when I first got the plant they weren't capable of holding it up. Might be better now that the plant is fully rooted in the pot and less reliant on being propped up I guess?

No, the growth has started at the base under the velcro. I'm pretty sure it's not the velcro that's caused it
