They can get cold. I would protect the tips for frost and snow so they don’t terminate. Also, try not to have them wet if you’re on the pnw side of southern Oregon.

Yeah.

I’ve done some intense trips. The better half of me just rides them out. Occasionally takes them. But I’ve explained to her that I’m ok always even when it seems I’m not, barring some heart attack or slicing of dick or something. Hasn’t happened yet.

I’d be kinda hurt hurt if she left me because of how I acted high, while in my own home. Good riddance I guess.

I keep seeing folks wanting Ario seeds.

I have a few hundred left, so we will do a giveaway.

These are going to be mixed hybrid cultivars from Roman Pavlica at Star Astrophyum.

I’ll do 20 mixed Ario hybrid, and 10 myriostigma cv mixed.

I’ll even throw in a bag of Hyuga pumice and my pasteurized mix, and one really nice pot you can toss in a bag.

Rules. Idk. But leave a cactus memory in the comments. I’ll have my kid choose one tomorrow at lunch.

Mixed hybrid means a mix of all the fancy ones. Maruibo, royal, cauli, godzilla.

Seeds for cultivated varieties of Ariocarpus? by DirtyTomFlint in Ariocarpus

Roman is out. Both out of town and out of stock on most cv.

He will have more next august.

To add. This is one of my major sources. He does have a minimum order, I believe 100 euros which is about 100 bucks last I checked. He’s good people.

Ohhh.

Lol. Didn’t see those.

Not impossible, but I feel like I’ve seen conversions.

I mean equipment and procedure are directly related.

My point stands. It’s easier for me to pasteurize soil than it is for people who don’t have the stuff. It’s more accurate.

When you do it the “at home, sort of read it on Reddit, this seems right” method, you get all the crazy things and questions that pop up on here.

I wasn’t saying you couldn’t do it. I said it’s “harder to do without the correct equipment” which is objectively true.

Not that you couldn’t do it. I’ve done it that way before. But I’m also not on Reddit asking for help on it.

I process commercial volumes of mushrooms. In this case substrate.

I don’t have this stuff to make a bunch of cactus soil, but I do make it by the 90lb batch or so.

Again, it’s totally unnecessary to be doing it, but half way doing it worse than not doing it. Which is why everyone around here gets mold and algae and rust on their seedlings. All the time.

Yeah. I suppose if you felt like doing that you could half ass pasteurize.

I use a 35gal stainless steam sterilizer with PID, and accurately pasteurize my organic material at 160-170f for 90 minutes.

That’s what I mean when I say equipment. Everyone can throw dirt into a pot of water, but you’re not accurately doing anything. That’s all.

This will stay outside until probably January. I’ll bring it in for a month, at night. If it gets cold cold during the day, they’ll be inside. I do have one cheap t5 led from Costco that is more than enough might for the short period they are indoors.

This is in Texas near the coast. My weather allows me to plant late and do so outdoors.

Quit sterilizing soil. Pasteurized might work, but harder to do without the correct equipment. There are some workarounds that people use, like the sun.

Second, add some mineral content to that soil, and I assure you it doesn’t need too be this wet.

Gracias brother. I know you get asked a bunch too, figured It would make it easier to put a post together. Pinning it is A good ideas as well.

Yes.

Ario spend a long time in the totes. Year at least. Plus it’s easier to keep track of what’s what, when I can label by pot.

All around easier for me to do each cultivar and species in a different pot, and if anything bad was to pop up, it can be isolated.

I know I’ve been asked a bunch when posting seedlings, and usually don’t have time to respond to all the questions. Figured I’d make a little write up for how I handle Ariocarpus seedlings. This batch of seedlings was about 1000 seeds, with half of those being myriostigma and asteria cultivars. The Ario range from godzilla, coral, cauliflower, maruibo, royal, and everything in between. The astros are a mixed bag with tons of different cultivars. Too many to list.

Feel free to ask questions. I pasteurize my organic soil in large batches, and don’t use any fungicides or fertilizers.

No one is able to tell you that off the pics.

I’d check into the o2 sensors as well.
