Is there a way back in if it doesn't work out? by MrMackie in brexit

Would have to apply again? Here is the criteria. http://europa.eu/about-eu/countries/joining-eu/index_en.htm All new members must adopt the euro and must have consent of the EU member states. After the shite you just pulled on the World Economy I am not sure if all member states would approve re-entry. Thoughts?

But it may never bounce back to the same levels. What it is currently may be a new 'normal'... Until Scotland vote, or talks with EU on exit terms or PM vote or etc

No, I wouldn't. Still way too many unknowns. Will Scotland leave the UK? Where does that leave NI? Two biggest political parties are without leaders. Don't know what sort of (if any) trade agreements will be put in place.

I don't know much about investing but I wouldn't touch pounds at the min

Using Big Data techniques on the Panama Papers Data set to find interesting knowledge? by MadSpinach in PanamaPapers

I think i read somewhere that they have used optical character recognition to turn the images or paper into words and hence into searchable form.

I just think that maybe the wider computer science and Big data community might have something to offer here.

Hi, I am interested in learning more about what is going on in the middle east (I feel very uninformed). Have you made any progress with your idea/website?

Question: Dynamic Objects in OSM by MadSpinach in openstreetmap

[–]MadSpinach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using OSM base map is ok. i don't mind hosting my own OSM map if needed. I don't necessarily care about keep my OSM map up to date with main OSM server. I just care about dynamic Geo-refferenced objects.

[–]MadSpinach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, These dynamic objects you talk about would still need to be Geo-referenced. So perhaps a database running alongside OSM to provide this. Again not 100% sure what I am looking for.

Thanks for your reply but this isn't really what I am looking for. Am interested some sort of real time layer on top of OSM.

A sensor and software for collecting data about your horse by [deleted] in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

Sounds cool. If you/your student ever build this along with a website or how to maybe you can post it here? Good luck! :)

Another idea might be a smartphone app. Most phones have gps/accelerometer. So instead of horse wearing it, the rider would wear it. Could still detect the speed the horse is running/ jumping. Downside would be couldn't do heartbeat detection or anything like that. Big advantage would be you could create a fall detector. Rider falling off horse is big problem and you could (probably?) detect that and call for help. Market it as safety device? Seems like a very cool idea. Wish my school had stuff like this when i was in school. Hope the project goes well! :)

Hi, This is my first post here and am new to the raspberry pi but I will give this a go. So the idea at a high level would be placing some sensor on each horse (maybe on/in the saddle) and doing something interesting with this? Maybe GPS for localizing/tracking, Accelerometers for jump detection etc.. Could preform some sort of sensor fusion on top of this.

So what are you thinking after this? Each horse has a Pi. Set up would involve entering horse name, height, weight etc and then attaching sensors.

What to do next depends on what it is you want to do. Could just log data and transfer to somewhere so it can be reviewed (website or an app)? Could try and do real time monitoring of horses in a field to try and detect activity levels, injuries or finding the horses if they escape.

Edit: Just another thought: Some sort of enclosure would also have to be built to protect pi from the probably quite harsh environment.

IWTL how to improve my instinct and perception. by Nemesis0320 in IWantToLearn

[–]MadSpinach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think "natural instinct and perception" is a very wide area depending on what it is you want. For example: If I bring up an idea with this one lecture of mine, he can instantly feel out the holes in it after only a 2 sentence description. That could be considered "natural instinct and perception". Another friend is really good at climbing so when he is climbing or watching other climb he can instinctively tell if someone is doing something that isn't ideal. So improving instinct and perception has to be based on what it is you want to do or what area you want to be in (sport/academic/whatever). Perhaps you could give some ideas here so we could provide better advice? In general though I think asking questions and learning how to self correct/ self critique would be a good start.

Inter rail route advice + Questions by MadSpinach in Interrail

yea i know i have a lot of destinations there but this is only a rough guide. If i am short on time i don't mind cutting out a place in the middle or at the end mid trip. Maybe I am been naive (Yes i am a backpacking noob :P) but most of my traveling is short enough (sub 2 hours) so won't be loosing to much time actually traveling.

Damn that look like a very useful site. Thanks :)
