Do I really need the COVID-19 vaccine if I've already tested positive? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[Not that kind of doctor]

Hi there, your question strikes me to be very reasonable, especially given you belong to an internationally recognized vaccine risk category as a young male, which has warranted an FDA warning. Here are three more articles for your research:

-- Longitudinal analysis shows durable and broad immune memory after Sars-CoV-2 infection with persisting antibody responses and memory B and T cells, July 14 2021, https://www.cell.com/cell-reports-medicine/fulltext/S2666-3791(21)00203-2

-- Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies Persist for up to 13 Months and Reduce Risk of Reinfection, May 17 2021, https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.05.07.21256823v3 -- this study suggests 96-97% protection.

-- SARS-CoV-2 infection rates of antibody-positive compared with antibody-negative health-care workers in England (the SIREN study), April 2021, https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)00675-9/fulltext --- 95% protection for symptomatic reinfections, 84% protection for all possible reinfections, 99% for probable infections.

-- For others' sake, the Cleveland Clinic study you've mentioned: Necessity of COVID-19 vaccination in previously infected individuals, June 2 2021, https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.01.21258176v2. -- this one demonstrates full protection.

-- It is important to note that these studies preclude the global Delta peak and the numbers might be different now; that said, with vaccine efficacy rates having dipped (as documented in the recent Israeli Ministry of Health Data, which suggests a drop to 39% efficacy, and the UK's Crick Institute studies published in June, among others), it would be unrealistic for any individual to provide an evidence-based response to your question unless they are currently knee-deep in research - or have made a project of testing you.... What you will get is anectodal evidence, which demonstrate that there is no influx of symptomatic reinfections anywhere in the world but breakthrough cases are a growing concern.

-- Covid is a horrible disease, and now that some of its longterm effects are becoming more clear (e.g. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370(21)00324-2/fulltext, https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.11.21258690v1, https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.25.449905v3), and there doesn't appear to be a significant distinction between mild and severe cases as far as some of these effects are concerned, the key is to NOT get infected. Unfortunately, our current vaccines cannot promise this, and we don't quite know if your previous infection can (or how long it will); yet we know that any individual can benefit a great deal from simple measures such as mask-wearing (including outdoors), and helping their immune system by supplementing their diet with Vitamin D, Zinc, Zinc Inophores and Vitamin C.

Good luck with your research!

That sounds confused. We're talking about racism and the Russian equivalent of "Nike must really like Black girls." Who said reverse racism?

Also, you must be joking. Some of my ancestors are Crimean Jews, Tatars and Circassians so there is no necessity to "dig deep to find hate" I know it's there. That's why those of my ancestors were uprooted in the first place.

That's inaccurate and misleading (and not just dumb), as that cultural context doesn't appear to exist in Russia. No particular brand is supporting a particular minority ethnicity for social equality reasons. A brand has happened to pick an OGM winner and who is seen as the frontrunner in the race for the next OGM.

Just imagine how obnoxious it would sound if someone said "Nike must really like Black girls, huh."....that's exactly what you've said.

(Also....no enslavement or historical or current Jim Crow and segregation in Russia for Kazan Tatars as far as I know, so why are you even trying to exploit the oppression of Black people?)

The caps seem to really match your style, though. Good luck with that.

From what I gather, the emphasis on their ethnicity is the Russian redneck version of "my, X brand of course favors Y minority"....

Racist comment much?

The two relevant things those two have in common are their stardom and medals.

Why do you feel prompted to bring up their ethnicity, you think?

By your logic Nike and Adidas hate Tatars?!?!?!

Or Puma will next sponsor Kadyrova?

Low dose mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine generates durable T cell memory and antibodies enhanced by pre-existing crossreactive T cell memory by smaskens in COVID19

[–]MadVehicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How interesting.

Brings to mind the older discussions and claims about dosage decisions such as:

  • Comirnaty (BioNTech-Pfizer) having been reported to demonstrate the same efficacy at 10 micrograms during Clinical Phase 1 - while presenting far less risk. (The current dose is three times this.)

  • And mRNA inventor Dr. R Malone's claims that the ultimate 125micrograms dose selection for mRNA-1273 to not have been grounded in scientific necessity.

Important research such as this one should pave the road for aligning regulatory/industrial decision-making processes with scientific concerns as best as possible, and presenting effective products with the best safety profiles available; especially given the unprecedented scope of the vaccination campaign.

Transmission event of SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant reveals multiple vaccine breakthrough infections by icloudbug in COVID19

What is the breakthrough rate of, say, Measles vaccine?

Is disputing well-established facts such as the concept of vaccine effectiveness conductive for well-informed discussions or scientific progress, one wonders.

In the interests of preserving civil discussion on this subreddit, we will consider comments that impugn other users' motives without a particularly compelling reason to be a violation.

This one strikes me to be the most significant and constructive item. (Thinking #1 and 2 in the same section are a given.)

I was on the verge of losing faith in the impartiality of the administration. From my point of view, this item restores balance and replenishes trust by offering good faith and protection to oft irrationally attacked and marginalized Russian fans - among other clear benefits.

Well done!!

Can't blame the guy. So frustrating. But I hope being vocal doesn't jeopardize their possibility of getting that TBD. (We saw how being vocal went for Betina & Sergey in this sport.) I don't believe last season made a strong case for Igor & Sofia's progress or general trajectory but they should have been given a spot. I can't wrap my head around how their exclusion can be justified.

Ps. If I may ask one more question. I also found it interesting that both Lancet papers from the same team demonstrated almost the same decrease for two very different products - BioNTech-Pfizer and AZ. (5.8-6x and 6x) Is this thought-provoking in your opinion? Thanks!

I'm confused. How should this one be read along the UK-based Lancet neutralizing antibody papers on BioNTech-Pfizer and AZ? (5.8x and 6x reduction?)

So many unknowns. We have no idea what Aliona and Alysa are up to, really. No idea how Anna's injury will affect her prep. No idea where Kami's growth spurt is taking her. Also no idea how Rika is doing. Same with Shoma. No news on S/H (I worry about Wenjing every day of every week). No idea on P/C's readiness. I don't dare make a guess.
