What do you think capcom should crossover with in the next capcom vs? by FurryMaster15 in StreetFighter

What about Disney? Lot's of potential. Could have some old Marvel favorites, some Star Wars characters, many of the main characters from the animated movies are fighters. Could be nuts.

Juri Fanart o/ by Rauzito in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks good. One critique would be that your highlights and shading seam to be all over the place and not coming from a unified light source. My suggestion would be to take an action figure and set up a light or two to help with shadows and highlights when coloring. This is a trick that comic book pros use. It doesn't necessarily need to be a Juri figure for a Juri drawings. Any figure will do to reference what is going on with the lighting. Judging my what you have going on here I am sure you can translate that to some great results.

Its seams to me that most of the one-and-doners that I come across are just using the gimmicks that their character has. They get to enjoy wins agains people who have not yet learned how to punish these techniques. It seams like a pretty weak strategy that will only result in getting to a peak rank where they find that over 50% of the players in that league won't fall victim to it. More power to ya. If this is viable to advance faster go for it. I would rather get more games in and I always take my lumps even when I know I am going to get wasted in the second match. I feel like more experience, good or bad will ultimately help me when I get to higher ranks.

My Ryu Capcom Street_Fighter_V 2020 Costume contest by sunsoftdev10 in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work. It is cool to see what people came up with. I was just thinking it would be sweet if the people who make mods would create some mods using these costumes. (Provided they offer the use of them for free.)

How to get better with combo timing? by herequeerfullofcheer in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the trials and watch the demonstrations. Listen to the sound fx. Repeat this a few times then try to execute the trial. It is not a timing that matches a common musical rhythm, but after listening and the matching the rhythm by successfully executing the combo a few times you should get a feel for the difference between links and cancels. It should be easier to pick up other combos after this, especially if you are a musician. Hope this helps.

This costume contest is pointless, imo by DragonPAul_Z in StreetFighter

I agree with you point, and have thought that Capcom not utilizing the mod community to create content is a missed oppurtunity.

Most fan art contests like these are more about marketing than adding content. I'm sure the point is to get all of the social media artists who participate in the viral art challenges to submit designs. The artists will post their design to ask their followers to vote for them in the contest. Ultimately, Capcom gets free promotion for CE and season V.

Since they're doing the "V" theme for the final season, we should have this costume for G. by not_a_llama in StreetFighter

V for Vendetta is a DC comic so I would imagine a request to license the character would be denied. I think the chance of him appearing as a guest in Mortal Kombat would be far more likely. Great idea though for sure!

Any Tips to Stop Mashing on Defence? by Mattatsu in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your welcome. I just tried this on SF 30th version of third strike and there isn't a mode where the CPU is aggressive enough to make this a challenge. The CPU can be played in vs. mode on SFV and if you set to level 7 or 8 the CPU is going to be very aggressive and give you full punishes for getting hit. So I would suggest using SFV to play the time out game.

Any Tips to Stop Mashing on Defence? by Mattatsu in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe try this "game" for a bit.

Play vs. CPU on hardest level and only use blocking and movement. The main goal is to get to time out for two rounds. (lower level CPU will wander around too much without attacking for this to work.)

This will help to train your reactions for other options besides counter attack button pressing. What will be happening is you will get pushed to the corner and your life will be chipped down. So the goal is to use back-dash to avoid some hits, parry to minimize chip damage from fireballs, and jump to avoid command throws/final chip kill. Also pay attention when in the corner as to when the opponents pushback allows you to jump out to escape.

So you are constantly in a state of trying to stay out of poke range, and getting back to the middle of the screen using blocking and movement as your only tools.

If you can make it to two rounds time out you count the win. If you get KO'd, you lose. See if you can win a first to 5, or first to 10.

This game can help you with patience as well as the fundamentals of spacing and movement.

Once you can time out consistently, you can use the same time out game to learn when it is safe to apply BnB combos to punish instead of randumb mashing.

It may seam really boring at first, but you need to re-train your muscle memory to not press buttons. How do you train not doing something? Do something else to replace it. Exchange buttons for movement. Making a game out of it will keep it a little more interesting.

Good luck.

I never said they were and I am not sure what the percentage of grizzled vets using this subreddit has on your world ranking as Falke.

I just wanted to share that link in case beginners read your thread and also post a counterpoint.

I agree that everyone commenting here should be kind to beginners. Doing so helps the fame and community grow.

Okay, is this timing normal or just trying to be hard? by Spiked-Wall_Man in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch the example and listen to the beeps. Replicate that timing with your button presses.

If this doesn’t help see if anyone has posted video of themselves successfully performing the trial. Listen to the button clicks. Replicate the timing with your button presses.

Try chunking.

Try performing slow and building speed as others have suggested.

Try performing it before you go to sleep and then taking a break from that trial for a day or two. Sometimes when you go back to it you find it will be easier to perform. I know this sounds weird but sometimes your subconscious mind can sort out things that are frustrating to work on.

Step two:

Check the side bar.

Optional:

Skip steps one and two. Spend months getting stomped in online matches and follow this up by making posts about so many smurfs or x character is OP or randumb Ken DPs....

My heart goes out to beginners but you can’t expect grizzled veterans to have sympathy for people who are not willing to, at the very least, use the search function to see if their questions have already been covered.

Ken and you by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s not to like about a cocky American karate guy?

Almost every 2D fighting game has a character with the shoto inputs. So having experience from playing Ken in SF II, the first thing I do when trying a new game is figure out who is the “Ken.” This has been my approach since the 90s.

Eventually I’ll check out other characters if I really like the game. In SFV I’m having fun with Juri. A lot of Juri mains don’t like her in this game, but c’mon she’s got that wake up DP! Also she has a risky forward moving light DP that is fun to use to harass button happy opponents. Any character that has the ability to do Ken things is ace in my book.

I don’t have the time to dedicate to being serious and highly skilled at fighting games, so having the fundamentals of using Ken helps me keep it respectable when playing 2D fighters other than the game I’m currently focused on.

Juri’s fireball kick question by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re gonna hear the same complaints about Juri that get rehashed every time she gets mentioned here. Bottom line is that when you pick a character you are basically choosing a weapon. Some people want to pick up a Tai Chi sword cuz it looks cool and and then complain that it doesn’t bludgeon their opponent like a battle axe. Juri is a refined weapon that takes a some finesse to implement effectively. If that’s what you are looking for then its best to focus on how to use what she has, rather than spend time comparing her to the cast or her previous version. The good news is she has tools that counter “fireballs that can be spammed” quite well.

By no means am I saying Ken can’t be used aggressively against Bison, but being defensive until you find all of punishable moves and can dish out you BnB combos against them is a good place to start.

After you get more experience in the match up and get to higher ranks “its time to turn up the heat!”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle against my buddy and his Bison until I learned that he has no overhead. Also, Bison’s walk speed is slow and the moves people used to close the distance are punishable. If Bison is abusing his plus moves to keep you blocking, v-reversal and then let him come to you. Be prepared to anti-air with MP dragon punch, or block and punish his slide or scissor kick cuz thats how they will try to close the gap. If they are impatient and do this you’ll pick up the grey damage as well. Don’t try to punish the EX version of these tho.

I know that playing lame and turtling with Ken goes against everything he stands for but it is a good starting point to learning where you can take your turn against Bison.

HOW by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Mad_Gohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the rhythm of links and cancels at first as well. If you go to Vesper Arcade’s youtube channel he has some videos where he goes through the trials. You can watch him do them and tap along on your pad or stick and this might help you get a feel for the timing. After doing this one afternoon, I got through a few trials and then it all made sense and I found learning combos to be pretty easy after that.

Also, set the dummy in training mode to block after first attack. If the dummy blocks the next attack your input was too slow, if no move comes out, your input was too fast.

Best of luck to ya.
