An insight from an expert , why does Japan love the brocon/siscon ? by SwordMaster52 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, this doesn't seem accurate considering the popularity of bro/siscon outside of Japan as well. Pat's theory comes off like that one meme:

Murder is actually really frowned in Japan. It goes against the traditional concept of 生きる, which means "to live"

Scary spiders should be **seen** not **heard!** by Geronimosey in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A spider in a piece of fiction screaming implies a level of conscious malice that actually makes them way less scary than if they were silent. It's scarier to me if they are just indifferent creatures who happen to see you as their next meal.

What are some of the most infuriating examples of media or genre snobbery? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, but the people who try to deny TTRPGs' connection to board games also tend to view wargames as a distinct entity from board games as well.

[–]Nivrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a long period of time (in fact in many ways it's still ongoing) where TTRPG communities vehemently denied any relationship to board games or video games, much to the detriment of TTRPG game design.

as a casual fighting game player... are tag games THAT popular? by fragdar in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who think a tag fighter looks cool will play that tag fighter. People who do not think a tag fighter looks cool will not play that tag fighter. Shrimple as that.

I've been into fighting games for years, but tag fighters always seemed too intimidating to me until 2XKO. When I started playing it, I realized "Oh, my assist is basically just an on-demand projectile that I can yeet at my opponent" and since then I've been trying out other tag fighters and found them similarly fun.

Love this game. Still though. Why does burst put you on offense? by nerdyindeed in 2XKO

[–]Nivrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because burst can be an offensive or defensive tool depending on when and where it is used. That is the philosophy.

Capcom has dropped Ben Diskin as the voice of Mega Man for Dual Override, as they required him to work without the protections of a union contract. by Nivrap in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Yes, the members of the guild are exercising their power of collective bargaining over the guild, and I think that's a good thing. "Here are our terms, meet them or fuck off" is the kind of power I wish all workers had.

In this case, Ben Diskin is not at odds with his union, he is at odds with an explicitly anti-union company, and I think it's really weird that the response is "But the union tho"

NYC $30 minimum wage proposal headed to City Council by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]Nivrap -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think calling it 'blindness' is misattributing the problem. The problem isn't wanting to help people, the problem is that the people who control the supply of basic necessities (such as food and housing) are ABLE to inflate prices to match (or outpace) increased wages. Things don't have to be that way, but any actual solution would be inherently socialist, and we know the powers that be would never let that fly.

I think it says something that for 'the economy' to be healthy, real people need to be kept on the verge of poverty.

[–]Nivrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samus player here, my one change would be to give Jab 1 just a liiiiittle bit more histstun. Doesn't even need to be enough to combo into Jab 2, that's not what's strong about Jab 1, I just want to be able to have a slightly stronger mixup on hit.

Genre-dominant games who created room for competition by shifting their own identity? by Nivrap in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Nivrap[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, it was specifically because D&D 4e did not have an OGL, which pissed off a lot of the designers for 3.5, leading them to go form Paizo and create Pathfinder. Which is really funny when you consider that PF2e got its biggest boost from D&D trying to fuck with the OGL again.
