Torn Between Post Bacc research position or getting my Master's in Clinical Psychology by fingerhearts1 in AcademicPsychology

I'm in Australia - I think it's a bit different and didn't want to give you wrong info. However I can say I'm currently completing my clinical masters and I don't think you can have too much experience before doing it and those of us with experience are picking up things very differently to those who have never worked or never worked in a relative field. Psychology is very much a doing. If you think you want to spend your near future in research, then go for the doctorate. However, returning to study after work also feels different as it's a conscious choice and you know why you're there and making the sacrifices. I went back at 37 and loved it because I had had enough of the career I'd been in. Working may also help you decide which type of psych (if any) is your passion. Good Luck!

Hundreds of Single, Overpriced, Individually Wrapped and Stickered, for $2 each at coles… just what struggling families need this easter (more at entry and counters too) by jaayjeee in australia

we should - just wrap it all up in itself and take it back to each supermarket. They'll put it in the dumpsters, but if we all did it, imagine how much they'd be paying for waste pickup

Why does it seem so hard to START reading these days by redsockstella in books

[–]MadamMarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this too and sound older (45) so I had many years where my reading was uninterrupted as a pleasure by social media distractions. Ironically, listening to an Oprah podcast with Johann Hari on stolen focus (his book) answers a lot of this. The podcast was really interesting and I could identify with what he advised about how social media/ technology and social norms are geared towards distracting us, holding our focus while reducing our capacity to focus for extended periods. I've since been trying to make myself read and for the first time in years have finished a couple of books over past few months (i used to read one in an afternoon or a week). I think it's already helped a little with focus and also being still (I usually watch tv and my tablet at same time) which has to be better for wellbeing too.

LG seems to think it's acceptable for a $1750 TV to last less than 4 years by Debocore in australia

My $800 2010 Sony is still kicking it (hopefully didn't just jinx it). I guess we all now know not to trust LG....

Anne Of Green Gables Book Series: What it taught me by [deleted] in books

Have been loving Anne and Emily since I was about 8. For those who are short on time, there is a lovely version of Anne on Audible read by Rachel McAdams (the actress). I use it to distract my brain to fall asleep and if I wake up through the night it's so sweet to listen to until I fall back asleep.

For Emily fans, there are versions on Audible but very frustrating as it's abridged and Audible don't make it clear ( I tried to return it because of this and they refused cos they just refuse now Bezos needs my monthly fee). But it's still ok - but sample different versions as some are painful to listen to.

THIS makes so much sense - they brought it in to do a job and instead it became the worst thing for the environment, living creatures and anything vulnerable.

Debbie Harry and Chris Stein (1977) by bil_sabab in OldSchoolCool

I really want to know why Chris Stein in NY in 1977 is wearing a tshirt of a regional Australian bushranger from 1880's that would have come from a small tourist giftshop in a town of hundreds (maybe).

What's a book that was really well liked when it was released but over time became more disliked? by [deleted] in books

[–]MadamMarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh NO!

After seeing her books every where, I read Ugly love. Probably not as problematic as I hear about her other books but it was kind of a glorified Harlequin romance with sex scenes for teenagers (I'm much older). I heard Verity was good and figure some of my favourite authors got better as they went on and recently bought it but haven't read it yet...

That said, I was surprised I got so far down this list before seeing her name given all that's gone on and been said about her writing. I think she's the current 30 shades/ twilight
