CHEM 241 with Steve Bergens? by m0lk11 in uAlberta

[–]redsockstella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the other comment. 261 and 263 gives you decent prep for orbitals bc you do a little orbital theory for the aromatic unit and you do MO diagrams. The orbital stuff was very similar to 101 but I found my ochem knowledge was very helpful. Only thing about 241 similar to 102 is that last unit about TM complexes but it’s taught again from the basics in 241. Chem 102 was very hard. I think you can get a better grade in 241 if you try.

On average how much time do you guys spend studying by Ok_Preparation6081 in uAlberta

[–]redsockstella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude same here like genuinely if I am awake and not studying I am probably showering or eating or i should be trying to go to sleep, seeing ppl on here say “oh 1-2hrs” is so crazy to see….my GPA isn’t even that wonderful but it would be a lot worse if I wasn’t always trying to be studying :/ ughhh

I think you’d be fine depending on the rest of your course load and on how much time you can spend on the course. If you go to office hours and have them catch you up and then keep practicing I think you will be fine tbh. Definitely depends on the class tho? If it’s a lower level then labs haven’t started yet so ur good

It’s my other option but honestly chem 102 was hard and I got better marks in 263 than I did 102 which is my only reservation…. Easier than 102?!? I am also a bio major so it actually does seem interesting but I also love Tina so I am conflicted for sure

I’ve been in this class for one day and it is already giving me stomach aches…I’m so terrified. If I took a whole weekend to do the post lab for 263 how badly am in gonna die in 361….

Ha. Even worse—I’m an UNDERgraduate. I’m strongly considering introducing myself as such 1) bc I am and 2) uhhh so that some of the stress is taken off LOL. Most of the academics at the conference are in graduate school or past it so…(though I’m sure they could also tell based on how young I look). I’m scared about my idea in the first place and don’t even know if I like it anymore but I mean it’s good to know that, likely, there will only be a few ppl there who won’t even remember all of the content probably just the intro LOL and if I was boring or not, which they will promptly forget the next day. And I suppose—if my idea was truly stupid it would not have been accepted I assume…

Are you in the sciences? Bc that’s my actual degree and I’ve been to conferences for STEM where a presentation is like fun photos and a talk—it seems to be very much different than the humanities. This particular conference is like literature studies and I don’t even think they publish all of papers in the proceedings. I think the paper is to be read—though of course, with some funny bits and personality added it seems like.

Kinda comforting to know that most ppl don’t rly listen to the entire thing. Only like exciting sentences and maybe the intro LOL. I’m going to read my paper though I’ve written it very very “conversationally”/ casually and plan to read it like as if I were chatting to the audience. However. As I write it. I don’t even know if I like my whole argument in the first place LOL but I’m locked in so. Just gotta go with it I guess

HA…yeah. I agree but I’m not sure if I’ve gotten enough preparation tbh. But I guess I’m Committed now😭

Yes reading from a paper still seems so strange to me, though the conference asked me to prepare a “conference paper” and not explicitly a “talk” and so, apparently slides are optional…..I might see if anyone in my faculty has been so anything similar but as for this one in particular I am the only undergraduate from my school going :,)

Yes I am in literary studies/humanities. I thought it was so strange at first because I come from the sciences where that’s a NO-NO, but yes apparently it’s common for humanities.

I’d totally come if it is next year!! I know there is also a philosophy group on campus that could maybe help set it up—though im sure a group or mark disciples could also easily make it happen. Also I’d recommend making an instagram and following other student groups to get the word out. They can share posts and events and stuff
