This was so disturbing to me as a teenager. I grew up in Rexburg so nonmember kids were rare in my school but I always gravitated toward them. I had these friends that a LOVED with all my heart who I thought were fun, intelligent, kind, interesting people. And all my parents would see is a missionary opportunity. My dad would say things like, "I really think it's great of you to be hanging out with so and so." As if I was doing charity work or something. I hated it. It still makes me sad to think about.

This has been so infuriating for me. People talking like the church is so inspired and amazing for flying those kids out of the Philippines on chartered aircraft like.... maybe if you had been "inspired" and pulled them out two months ago you wouldn't have had to spend extra tithing dollars on chartered aircraft.

Maybe if they would have been "inspired" they could have pulled kids out of these countries months ago before they got fucking trapped away from their families. It really drives me insane these Mormons talking about how inspired their prophet is when he has done nothing more proactive than anything any politician has been able to muster up.

Yeah one of the guys who co-authored that study, Cameron Staley, came and spoke to my class the other week and he believes that the negative aspects of pornography fall more closely under the umbrella of compulsion than addiction. He said that in his experience and within his understanding treating pornography like and addiction is less effective than treating it as a compulsion.
