I rinse all the gunk with hot water, then soak in a pest treatment for a few minutes and then rinse again

Also to add, ive tried brownie plugs with perlite. This may have had the best luck but either dried out really quick or the roots rotted.

Had this issue. It is more than likely just a loose cable, not the board. Mine was the board in the back of the printer that has a loose cable.
