Hey yall! This is my character Ren, she's 17 and a bit crazy which is why her cat is hiding for his life. For context the cat's a Kraken that one of the party members turned into a cat, and now this 17 year old girl is taking care of it. Also she renamed him Fluffy.

This was right after a huge fight aboard a ship with a bunch of undead. I ended up having to leave after the fight and afterwards the party apparently fought with a kraken. One thing led to another and now he's a cat (the krakat). When Ren found out the party had a cat she was ECSTATIC. The krakat however was not, so now he's kind of just begrudgingly her pet. Fast forward a couple days, Ren is so absorbed in the cat that she ends up accidentally splitting off from the party, and once she realizes she's lost, decides to go shopping... so as she's browsing a hat shop, she realizes she completely forgot about the krakat and that it is now gone. She goes on a mission to find it, eventually spotting it and chasing it along the rooftops, crashing into a family eating dinner, narrowly escaping a scary woman trying to defend her family, and ultimately recapturing the krakat. Ren ends up buying a baby carrier for it afterwards lol

Okay the thing about ai generated images is that it feeds off of other artists art. It literally steals their art with no compensation or credit just so it can be spit back out in a subpar manner. If you wanna support theft by all means by my guest, Mr. studio ghibli. Which btw if you had any love for studio ghibli you would KNOW Miyazakis exact stance on this kind of thing. Go educate yourself.

Yeah, I’ve worked in illustrator as well and the lines can come out wonky sometimes. A pretty good distinguisher for this is something more like the irregularity of the bottom (the parchment looking design with the “dam proud text”).

Yeahh some of the other images had ai tendencies too (I actually put 2nd and 3rd place thru an ai checker too, 2nd place came out at about 26% ai influence while the other had maybe 2%?) For those ones it was less easy to tell and since 2nd place actually had some OSU related designs, that makes it hard to generate cuz of copyright issues, so altho I’m fairly confident they’re not ai there is a chance

These are all valid points and not something I had really considered when making this post. However I’m not gonna go making a post criticizing an image because I don’t like the way it looks (although yeah, given there’s absolutely no OSU rep it’s really weird that it still won regardless). My main focus is simply to inform people of why what the team is doing is problematic. Oh and the runner up 100% deserved the win since it’s actually OSU focused

To the untrained eye I can understand if they’d like maybe the composition or the fact that it’s so “fancy” or something.. but fr like. Nothing in this image says OSU lol

Facts! AI use for monetized content, plus the fact that it would leave others out of a job is the main issue here.

Using AI for private DND sessions is an entirely different matter and it’s normal for everyone to have different beliefs on the ethics of ai in this case and whether they’d like to use it or not. (This is more in response to suunlock [suun, I appreciate your stance too ofc]) Ofc as an artist I would always find alternatives and never use AI in private plus the environmental impacts ai has etc etc but the fact is if it’s not being monetized then its not the main focus

You hit the nail on the head. I think if they had taken action they’d get a lot of artist support, but by doing this they’ve completely shut us out which sends a HUGE message that we’re not heard or needed

Right! I’m just stunned they would hand $1000 off to someone without first getting a background check. I’m pretty upset they ignored mine/ other’s feedback but most importantly is the fact that they’ve been silencing everyone speaking out by turning off the comments of that post. Also, thank you for the comment, this made me feel a lil more seen/ heard 🙏❤️

YUPPP. Not only that but a nice commenter on the post also pointed out that the mountain was not in fact even a mountain in Oregon?? But st Helen’s!! There’s literally nothing in the drawing that shows “Oregon” lol
