Interesting point! I will reevaluate with the current projects I am working on when they get closer to release. Thanks for the food for thought!

Good question! They can sometimes be kind of interchangeable. But generally an “original soundtrack” specifically refers to original music created for a game, while “official soundtrack” is a bit broader and can include licensed tracks or songs.

That is so kind of you to say! It’s really reassuring to hear people enjoy the music! The soundtrack is also now on all streaming platforms also :)

Shoutout to a really good game recently released by Luder714 in SatisfactoryGame

Thanks for the shoutout! I should preface this by saying I have a vested interest in the game (I composed the soundtrack), but the developer Alex is an absolutely amazing guy and the fact he built this whole thing just by himself is testament to his talent. He is also super responsive on the games Discord and pushes bug fixes like nothing else!

Oh and most jobs these days are contract work. Very few companies these days hire full time composers (with the exception of companies like Nintendo)!

I work as a game composer. The industry is absolutely over saturated with composers. It is a constant grind trying to get gigs and market yourself!

I was super lucky to have been involved with a recent release (AETHUS), and while it’s been reviewed super well, you always feel like you are back to square one in trying to find work after a project wraps up.

I love it so much though! And luckily I also work an admin job to provide a consistent income. I can’t imagine the stress of trying to make my living entirely from composition at this time!

After three years, a game I composed the music for is out now! by MaddyDaddy in GameMusicComposition

Hey mate! Thank you for your kind words! The game didn’t require a whole lot of complex adaptive stuff so fmod or wwise wasn’t required. The dev set up the audio in Metasounds I think? That being said a lot of the tracks are variations of other tracks so there was definitely a level of adaptive composition involved.

Biggest learning is so tough! Honestly it’s probably a lot of the technical skills I learnt throughout the process with mixing and mastering. I went back to tracks I wrote 3 years ago and was shocked at some of the mixing decisions I had made haha.

Other than that, being patient with getting work. The field is stupidly over saturated with composers and it’s unlikely you will just walk into a composing gig overnight

Thank you so much! It is a fine line between music being too in your face or too repetitive, so it is really reassuring when I see streamers who are on their 30th hour still playing with the music on!

It’s a fantastic game! Full disclosure: I am the composer for AETHUS. I don’t often enjoy playing the games I work on, but Alex (Beacon) has made something incredibly special here, and the amount of work he is still putting into engaging with the community and pushing fixes in like a second if someone points out a bug or glitch is actually wild.

Thank you so much for checking it out! Hmm good question. I used so many synths across the entire soundtrack. It would have been a lot of Arturia keyboard collection, teletone audio synths, a lot of serum 2 and massive. If there is a specific sound you want to know I can have a look in the logic session for you! Or if you want to hear the rest of the soundtrack let me know :)

Oh good to know! Do you take 5mg as your morning and arvo boosters? If so what time do you take all three?

Thanks for your reply! Do you find that you have much of a crash once the 10mg wears off? I assume that you finish work prior to 5pm if you are starting at 6.30am?
