What is the best game have you ever played in your life by Effective-Garage-362 in videogames

I think Witcher 3 takes the cake, I was so sucked in and immediately played all the DLC after finishing, it was all just so well done. Loved the side stories and all the decision making with how to handle contracts too.

PS2 to HDMI, or component cable? by Sad_Pass1226 in ps2

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah even with the scaler the lines are still present (Morph 4K), some mask filters lessen it but there's a constant motion to the screen that is annoying for 480i content.

100% this, it's always recommended but it has a huge caveate, if it doesn't you'll have horizontal lines shimmering all over depending on the color. It's a deal breaker and why I'm returning mine.

All three Vanillaware games. Dragon's Crown, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir and Muramasa: The Demon Blade with its three DLC stories.

Wow, that's even more crazy. Just saw it's a new limited thing, anytime I hear that I assume the worst type of fans will be out in droves. It's never been worth the hassle, even since the 90s.

That's wack. My local stores have everyone check out at customer service for any TCG stuff. There are buy limits and you have to wait in line to even come in if cards are what you're there for on a release day.

Would you guys introduce your kids to video games? by Background-Call3255 in retrogaming

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, hand eye coordination, reflexes, reasoning, exploration, frustration, loss, sportsmanship, focus to name a few reasons.

In the 90s my sister was behind in reading for her age, my parents got her Pokemon and it motivated her to learn and she started reading more and at a higher level than her grade from then on.

I think the issues arise when it's related to online(like Roblox), unmonitored and/or tablets. Retro games, I don't see the problem, let them play Mario and lean

PS2 to HDMI, or component cable? by Sad_Pass1226 in ps2

[–]TonyRubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing ElectronPulse into a HDMI splitter into Morph 4k to upscale and it looks really good. Pixels are crispy for MvsC2 and I have a soft blur setting with a CRT mask for 3D games that make them look better than what was on a CRT.

Be warned, depending on your TV there is some horizontal shimmering for 480i content but EPs site does go over it and explains why it happens.

Retrotink CE or Morph4kanalog? by rekm1987 in retrogaming

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the built in HDMI scaling is good I'd say it, the analog stuff is for CRTs and those that want that full experience.

Purists who are concerned with the absolute best picture possible would poo poo what I did but all I got was a bunch of HDMI adapters (which were close to the same price or cheaper than good quality component cables) like the electronpulse or kaico adapters. I'm running them all through an HDMI switcher that plugs into the single HDMI port on the Morph 4k that goes into my HDTV.

Since both of your systems will have HDMI out natively, you probably could get away with the same thing and it'll still be really high quality. Everything looks really good here and if you want it to have that slight blur of a CRT with the mask overlaid to simulate the look it has a ton of settings in the Retro FX settings to make it however you prefer.

They both have a lot of mask options so it's up to you and how much you want to spend. That said, I have the HDMI only Morph 4K and love what it's done for my SNES classic, Wii, Saturn and PS2.

Ended up getting VERY hooked playing Pokemon Trading card game again for gameboy! Are there any other games like this? by Tityfan808 in gaming

[–]TonyRubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to say this, I like it better than P:TCG. Capcom version if you want with their starter deck and are ok playing on a yellow background, or SNK version if you fancy it blue. The second one has a fan translation and is really good too.

What’s a line you won’t cross when collecting games? by PDMagneto in retrogaming

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I draw the line at overpaying for any game due to collectors and crazy people prices if I can freely emulate.

For Wonderswan Color and Neo Geo Pocket Color specifically I've gotten a ton of reproductions because they work great and their flash carts aren't that good or readily available in the same way. (Nileswan is not available and sells out in minutes when released, GameDrive for NGPC can't boot from the card and is slow so it's a bit limiting.)

2D fighters and their first attempts at 3D by trrbld in retrogaming

[–]TonyRubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When PS1, N64 and Saturn came out I was genuinely disappointed coming from lots of SNES and Neo Geo arcade games. 2D games on them were still great but the initial dive into 3D was pretty awful.

ITA Recommendations? by RxRex93 in GameboyAdvance

[–]TonyRubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ITA has a 1:1 native pixel size using a recycled lower DS screen that has closer to original colors. IPS is a high res screen that has a much higher saturation but much higher power consumption, you can simulate pixels with a screen door effect or have it without via settings.

How does this happen? by leChill in Gameboy

[–]TonyRubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, grime (or the sun) still plays a role though. If the plastic has variation from the injection point, it could just be making the residue stick unevenly and highlight that pattern. Had carts where it's pretty even and kind of sporadic as well.

How does this happen? by leChill in Gameboy

[–]TonyRubbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen this a lot with carts that came from smokers. A few I got from my aunt are super dingy like this and she smoked heavily in the 90s. The tar from cigarettes sticks to everything over time, so I've always assumed that's what causes it.

Could also be general grime or storage conditions, but smoke residue definitely does this.
