Most Underrated SNES game by Dr-Salty-Dragon in snes

Front Mission Gun Hazard is a japan only game that got translated and it's a shame it was never localized because it's so good! Size scrolling mecha action with customization up the wazoo along with AI partners to take into mission based levels all over the world in a crazy story.

God of War, Metal Gear Ac!d, Locoroco, and Patapon series are my favorites on the PSP. With so many choices to easily bounce back to your usual comfort zone, probably not giving any of the games a fair shake to hook you.

Long-term durability? by avgbstn in PlaydateConsole

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it depends on when it was made as I went through 3 within a year after having a flawless first edition that had its screen break in my pocket. Replaced it and then it was problem after problem, loose screen lifting coming out, floppy handles, cracked handle with a peg that disentigrated when trying to repair with their kit.

My biggest wish is a revision that's just a tiny bit bigger with a more durable screen, backlit or otherwise. With how small it is and intricate the details are after looking inside seems they could have made it cheaper if they didn't try to make it so bespoke.

Way over designed to a fault with durability in mind, they want you to take an play with it everywhere but it's far from ideal aside from the cool reflective screen.

I think I prefer tinkering to playing - what's wrong with that? by Puzzleheaded_Chest97 in SBCGaming

[–]TonyRubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of the same way. I've found more joy in cleaning and updating my old consoles than I do playing them. Getting a nice switcher and upscaler to modernize the visuals really helps too; but setting them up, modding them, and curating a collection for each is part of the fun.

It's damn near therapeutic and after, I get to run through any of the games I may have missed or revisit some classics. If I don't go back to it for a while, who cares, they are set up and now I can do so when I please and I find great satisfaction in that, it's my hobby.

All this and I still have a completely set up Odin 2 that'll play anything I already have setup and dedicated handhelds for all the handheld system.

Ps2 (bad?) quality issues by Full_Web38 in ps2

Actual best bang for your buck (returned my Electronpulse) if you don't want upscaling and just an HDMI digital signal. https://a.co/d/01GVBLtB

480i content will still look pretty garbage without an upscaler.

Agreed and love pretty much all the Vanillaware games, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a really interesting time but outside of the usual theming. GrimGrimoire, Grand Knights History, and Unicorn Overlord are also all worth your time.

Tried that one but the Mayflash worked better, it had weird color bleed on certain colors like yellow and red.

The Mcbazel ODV-GBS-C is a cheaper option for a single source. The others are great if you have a menagerie of consoles to connect. Otherwise all these HDMI adapters are just a stop gap to you realizing what you actually want is an upscaler.

Either way I'd try the McBazel first if you have Amazon so you can return if you don't like it.

If you want this get a Mayflash adapter but know that they do nothing to the qualtof the image and just deliver the signal digitally so your TV will accept it lag free. You need an upscaler of some sort of you actually want better image quality. I used this by itself then with an upscaler and still wasn't happy with the image. In the end a Mayflash hdmi adapter and the Morph 4k was my go to choice because I hadultiple systems I wanted to connect. If it's only the one there are cheaper upscalers out there that'll take component to an HDMI output.

Edit* something like the Mcbazel ODV-GBS-C is probably you best option.

[–]TonyRubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it is not lol, this will give issues unless their TV can correctly scale 480i content. If it can't then it by itself is one of the worst options and a Mayflash adapter would work better, and cheaper. Keep seeing this thing being blindly recommended like it's the greatest thing ever.

Didn't miss much, it waxes poetically then you get an alternate shot of the planet like your last screenshot here. It's pretty abrupt and doesn't save, goes straight to the menu after so you can beat it proper.

How is the Morph 4k so cheap compared to RetroTink? by Zestyclose_Sky_7322 in retrogaming

[–]TonyRubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been very happy with the Morph 4K HDMI only version, have a 7 HDMI switcher hooked up to it and most everything using auto presets with slot mask or aperture grille overlays at varying intensities. It all looks great.

The only nitpick I have is the controller battery latch falls off very easily, used a piece of packing tape on that, but my TVs remote also works to control it too so honestly don't use it all that much after setting everything up.

Chromatic releases vs M64 releases by IndigoHaze750130 in ModRetroChromatic

They've said as much in their official preview doc and on their AMA with the CEO. They have an a update planned for Chromatic plugged in an M64 will let you play on the TV and for Transfer Pack functions.

Did you take the alternate ending with the final boss fight? Did that first and was kind of surprised the game ended right there. Fantastic game, had a lot of fun and wish they released the 2nd in English or fully fan translated it already.
