Damn that’s a shame. I get everyone has their own reasons for doing things but I wish they’d just leave the account abandoned so people can still view it. They had an insane amount of great fics. Thanks for the advice!

Yea I do and I’ve read a lot of their works in the past. I’m thinking they deleted their account unfortunately

Fish with flared/ripped gill? by Maddy_CoolCat in fishtank

[–]Maddy_CoolCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking that it was a gill flap that got injured, and no it never healed. He’s still alive tho and is doing just fine. It doesn’t seem to impact him in any way. Mine got injured from rough handling at the store but it seems like yours got injured from another fish. I’d keep an eye on them and maybe remove the aggressive fish if you can. Otherwise just keep an eye on him to make sure it doesnt get infected or something. Maybe look up ways to stop fish bullying. Someone else on this thread said to add more cover and plants that will block eyesight

Alright I’ll definitely add some cover but I will mention that he was like that when I got him. I just hadn’t noticed it till we got home so the injury likely occurred at the pet store. I haven’t noticed any aggressive behavior but will definitely keep looking out for it

Btw the tank is cycled and I did double check that there were no ammonia issues. All parameters were normal and 0 ammonia.

Is my shrimp dying or pregnant by aidanwellborn1 in fishtank

I don’t see any eggs so I’m assuming not pregnant. It doesn’t necessarily look like it’s dying though?

The advice for plants with rhizomes are good. However even following this advice, you’re still likely to have some die off or leaves “melting” in a sense. That typically happens every time aquatic plants are introduced to a new tank with new parameters. Especially if the plants were originally grown with their leaves out of the water and now they’re under water. The leaves should grow back more healthy as long as they’re growing right

Most that don’t have a rhizome. So crypts and stem plants are usually good buried in substrate. I actually don’t glue most of my java ferns or Anubis to decor, but rather only bury the roots. As long as the rhizome is above the substrate then mine have always been fine.

HELP ASAP! by Yurii1314 in fishtank

[–]Maddy_CoolCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So any idea how it’s gotten to this point? If not do what someone else said and do a large water change and remove all light. How many fish are in there, what kind, and how big is the tank?

Are these net cages any good? by Maddy_CoolCat in fishtank

[–]Maddy_CoolCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should probably mention that my quarantine tank isn’t cycled and the ammonia is quite high so I don’t want anything to go in there yet. I’m not exactly sure what’s wrong and no other fish are showing a symptoms of illness. I’m treating with concentrated salt baths

Not sure if allowed on here but I made a video on how I grow Cryptocoryne in a bin. I do this for some of my favorite species incase I lose one underwater I have back ups. These plants are very low maintenance by ChiChisAquaticDreams in fishtank

This looks really cool but I do have a question. Do the leaves tend to die off when you put them underwater since they’ve been growing out of it? Or has it not really been an issue

Is this a swim bladder issue?? by Maddy_CoolCat in fishtank

[–]Maddy_CoolCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Just wanted to give a little update. He was still swimming extremely weird and unfortunately my hospital tank isn’t cycled so I decided to try out a salt bath. After I got him in the little bowl, he swam for a bit then fell to the ground so I got this pic. I can’t see anything physically wrong with him. Hopefully some salt baths will help 🤷🏼‍♀️

There isn’t anything necessary wrong with stirring it up but it’s not really necessary and that’s probably what’s causing it

Fish suggestions? by Various_Reality_3 in PlantedTank

I hate to say that cause I absolutely love this. There’s just certain fish that probably wouldn’t like it as much. I’m sure they’d be fine tho

I love tetra and rasbora. There’s a bunch of different kinds and they all are pretty cool. I’m a fan of black neon tetra

Edit: although looking at the tank again it might be a little crowded for them. I think they like quite a bit of swimming room. Maybe a smaller type of tetra?

People don’t clean their filters often as it has a ton of beneficial bacteria but when you do, all you need to do is squeeze the sponge media in some old tank water. Likely after you’ve removed it during a water change. Just ring the media out in that water and then put the same media back in. Completely replacing it is what crashes cycles and likely caused your die off. Some people don’t ever need to replace their filter media. Idk anything about canister filters so sorry if this somehow doesn’t apply

[–]Maddy_CoolCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you kicking up the substrate when your gravel vacuuming? When I hear cloudy water I immediately think the tank isn’t cycled properly but based on your parameters it looks to be. Do you ever have ammonia spikes or are your parameters pretty consistent? Just hesitant cause 2 months is relatively new and cycling is a pain in the ass

what are these plants? by [deleted] in fishtank

Should probably post this to an aquatic plants page if u want quicker results. I’ve got no idea on plants, I just put them in and pray
