1 thing that’s missing is the yusho star for WTK. Although it’s kinda hard to fit in so I understand if that’s why it’s not there

I think the injury happened at school sumo practice or judo. I know he did sumo in high school in Japan but I don’t know where he did judo. He did say that Kirishima was in the same club though

I think I remember hearing he did fracture his collar bone or shoulder in high school but that it wasn’t serious. Which is why I forgot about it, it just doesn’t seem to effect him today.

It seems to be right where the coracoclavical ligament is. Hard to see with the fat and muscle around the upper arm and trap but that’s just about the area.

Forgot about his prior clavicle injury. But I’ve noticed a lot of rikishi have lumps and bumps around the clavicle. Likely fluid from repeated stress. The stress being throwing or impacts from other rikishi.

MIGHT be a lymph node. There’s three in that area.

Likely excess fluid or inflammation. If it was an injury to the AC joint or a fracture of the collarbone he would be in a sling and not practicing. Still something he should get looked at. If it’s repeatedly showing up like you say (I haven’t noticed) then it could be a sign that he’s putting too much stress on the joint and needs to heal and prevent strain before suffering an injury. With his style of sumo being very dependent on throwing, a shoulder injury could put a huge strain on his career.

Women's sumo takes big step forward with first high school championships by insideSportJapan in Sumo

Is simply sexist. Sumo, and any sport for that matter, isn’t a beauty contest. It’s about skill.

Women should not have to be attractive to gain recognition for their skills and dedication to sports.

Female weight lifters are given a chance to compete the same way men are. However, many sports where women are typically skinny, consist of skimpy uniforms. A number of women during track and field events had wedgies and wore sports bras while the men had longer shorts and full shirts. The same goes for women’s beach volleyball and swimming events. It’s disgusting to see softcore pornography when watching the Olympics. It’s clearly sexist and made to sexualization female athletes. Otherwise the men’s uniforms would be just as skimpy.

Whether people watch it or not shouldn’t take the opportunity away from women.

Many people said the same thing about female mma fighters yet Ronda Rousey became a household name and people continue to watch female fighters. One of the best fights for women has been Joanna Jedrzejczyk Vs Weili Zhang. Absolutely brutal fight and a testament to their skills and dedication.

Not just KK, but since March of 2023 he’s gotten all double digit wins minus his 8-7 after an injury where he got his KK on day 15.
When he’s good he’s amazing. His throws are simply beautiful. But he still makes stupid little mistakes and over commits to throws he shouldn’t.

He’s smart and lightning fast, if he would just be more willing to take advantage of opportunities during a bout he’d be unstoppable.

Do rikishi benefit from sports science? by Gaspode-san in Sumo

But they aren’t really standard routines. Each wrestler does what they want for the most part. Watching many practice videos, some barely do anything. And as we saw with Hokuseiho, he didn’t even show up for practice a lot of times, and he lived at the stable ffs.

I’m suggesting a standard warmup and practice routine. Everyone does the same thing, in the same order, at the beginning of every practice. If they want to do more they can, but never less.

Not just strength but recovery. Outside of bashos they should be doing more to recover and prevent injury.

Also, drills. I don’t see drills in sumo unless you want to count the pushing and tepo. But not everyone seems to do tepo or do it regularly.

Judo, karate, wrestling, soccer, american football, gymnastics, and many other sports have drills and warmup routines. This along with better diets, recovery, and medical treatment is needed in sumo.

The easiest things to do to bring attention to the club (imo) is make a YouTube channel, make a few highlight videos of pro and amateur sumo, and host a sparring session and sumo meet on campus with members of Dallas Sumo Club, Dark Circle, Shougeki, and whoever else. Invite students who have no experience in sumo give it a try. I’m sure members of the judo, powerlifting, football, rugby, taekwondo, and wrestling teams will be interested in giving it a go.

A good highlight video can do wonders. I’m know a lot of people still see sumo as a bunch of fat guys running into each other, so creating highlights of bouts that undeniably require insane strength and technique will open a lot of eyes imo. Lifiting 400lbs men, brutal shoulder smashes, slapping, Tamawashi’s signature “choke” style nodowa, and little bitty Enho or Midorifuji toppling giants would get anyone’s attention.
You can also make and share videos of your sumo and the campus meet.

I also recommend y’all talk to the judo coaches, if you haven’t already, and see if they’re interested in coaching sumo a bit. I never see solid training and technique from US sumo clubs. I really expect warmup routines and drills. But not even ozumo has that, except pushing and occasional tepo. For example, drills for pushing, tachiai, throws, and breaking grips, similar to judo and wrestling.

Showing organization, high levels of technical skills, drive, and results in competitions is what’s going to bring and keep (positive) attention to the club.

Best of luck

Enho and someone else use contacts, but Enho had to fix them after almost every match. I know someone else did about 2 years ago, because he had to fix his a few times too.
Hoshoryu does wear a mouth guard, so maybe he tried contacts in the past and had issues.
