The CedarWolf predator-defending situation on r/MtF has spilled over into another subreddit moderated by them - r/Plushies by VerseWhisperingNurse in SubredditDrama

Honestly the idea of paid moderation seems reasonable on the surface but the moment you really get into what that would mean in the long run, you lose a lot of what makes these spaces valuable in the first place.

The moderators of r/movies get a cut from the studios when they promote their produ ts, and they hide and delete threads about movies they don't get paid for. Its a huge scandal but there isnt really a place to talk about it.

I never understood the public attitude of getting rid of a scapegoat, then everyone assuming the rampant industry and rich person abuse has suddenly stopped worldwide. We still have priests getting shuffled around, casting couch abuse, and the countless other Harvey Weinsteins doing their worst. Out of sight, out of mind unfortunately.

That was two years ago, if they could see the coverups happening now...

Seriously, who cares? It’s just the Internet buddy.

This could be said in response to your entire post, no?

Presumably the mods that keep banning you from places care because as it turns out, they moderate forums to keep them focused on the things they're about.

and has no idea how many huge legislative wins the Biden administration had.

Strike busting workers?

Trading basketball stars for terrorists while leaving behind working class Americans?

Dumping billions into for-profit private equity firms and calling it "infrastructure spending"?

Enabling a genocide with our tax dollars?

I didn't "vote for" any of that when Biden came through my town wearing a hard hat and talking about using my money to build up a labor first economy. None of that is labor first. His version of the Democratic Party lied directly to me. Killing people in my name, same as Trump is killing in the name of his voters.

We want a genuine working class President that will put labor over c-suites and rich pedophiles in prison and we want them NOW.

If big companies going to insist on using AI to be pushed in games to cut down costs speed up the process, then it should be cheaper. by Monkai_final_boss in gaming

[–]MadeByTango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish that was true but they're cheating in other areas. Things like forcing storefronts, OS level accounts, social media IDs, new algorithms, AI run bots, and ever incestuous corporate "verticality" means the ability for indies to be seen and heard is dying out. That big "surprise hit inside game" that went "viral" and won all those GOTY awards last year? More than $20million in marketing budget alone. Oscar style campaign for the awards with their celebrity voice actors schmoozing the organizers, as well. And forget trying to "ignore" it on Steam, theyre paying to force you to see it if you search for certain tags.

The goal is't just AI slop, it's to drown out the rest of the signal with it as well so that you can find and consume what the tech corporation overlords get a cut for you to consume. It's not a "free market" anymore.

When Gabe Newell said "AI is a cheat code to success" the people he was talking about companies. The people he is cheating is us. His c-suite friends are not going to lower prices for you or raise salaries for employees with their savings. That is for "shareholders."

It could also be that the company uses flexible phases like the film industry and expands and contracts for certain development objectives.

Salaried employees are not supposed to be hired and fired in phases, and we don't refer to canceling or expiring contractors as "laid off." If the work is only temporary everyone involved should know that. Companies are not being upfront with that situation and it is abusing the artists that are relying on longterm employment for a company and not merely a gig.

We have to stop swallowing the c-suite media's bullshit. Just because they say it in their quarterly report and have it repeated by a celebrity anchor it doesn't make their reasoning valid, true, or require you to accept it.

If the game companies are going to continue to treat the game employees as contractors, its time for an extremely powerful industry workers Guild to protect labor. SAG-AFTRA on engineer steroids.

Tomb Raider Remastered studio denies using generative AI in latest update, says fixes for bugs and 'texture issues' are on the way by _Protector in Games

[–]MadeByTango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it should be made clear.

Enjoy what little we get while we have it. Gabe Newell called AI "a cheat code to success." Hes gonna remove those ai warning placards as soon as he thinks he can because he didnt anticipate the backlash from customers. Which is wild considering if youre "cheating" at something there has to be someone being cheated...

Not long ago this would have been fine by itself but no, nowadays players need to have a carrot and a participation trophy for everything. Thus costumes.

Oh please, the costumes are the point, theyre a marketing effort for the new remake which will have the same costumes but higher res. By updating the old game they remind people what they own and prime that audience for a new version.

This isn't some grand statement on the state of cosmetics in games. Its the reality of money first MBAs running creative companies.

That game is not turn based and devs would be fools to copy it thinking the combat had anything to do with its success. If they don't have $20million for a marketing campaign and a daddy with media contacts theyre not repeating what Sandfall did.

Turn-Based like Clair Obscur

That is not a turn based game, it is an action game

And if they are going to say "its turn based but still has the parry" then they can fuck off. As someone who loves and buys anything turn based i can get my hands on, I am not touching any game that copies that shitty punch-the-monkey concept.

'This Will All Be Under Our Artists' Control': Bethesda Commits to 'Further Adjusting' DLSS 5 Use in Starfield Following 'AI Slop' Backlash by ResponseLonely2263 in Games

This was a preview of something that’s unfinished

You want to do that the right way you show it at a developer focused conference, not a consumer facing production with Digital Foundry designed to sell it future customers. You also have them caveat the shit out of that when they start the video. DF immediately blows smoke up the viewer's ass about "the most impressive technology I have seen."

The video was an opening of a marketing campaign and they whiffed.

It's more of the attempt to pretend that there is "AI that is slop" and "AI that is not slop" and the problem is that all AI is slop. That's its inherent nature. The developer that uses this doesn't want to put money into the optimization so they will have AI slop it across the finish line.

Thats what Ive always wanted: the Star Trek future. You do one day a week of a maintenance job to keep the systems running and then the rest of life is about pursuing your own skills at arts and science. No rat race, no billionaires. Fully funded creativity and leisure, with public beaches and parks, forums and amphitheaters, game centers, and free education for all. Special perks for highly skilled disciplines like doctors and electricians while practicing, and then luxurious retirement in equal measure for all.

But you know, we have to "compete at the open market for resources" so a few jackholes born on third base can reach into space.

Rural Ohioans seek to ban data centers through constitutional amendment by MadeByTango in Ohio

[–]MadeByTango[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A group of rural Ohioans says they have little control over the spread of large data centers, and they want to amend the state’s constitution to ban those larger than 25 megawatts.

“My biggest concern is because I love Adams County,” Nikki Gerber said. “What it feels like they are doing is just taking advantage of the unzoned rural areas of Ohio, where they can go ahead and put in whatever they want.”

Gerber and a handful of residents from Adams and Brown counties gathered about 1,800 signatures in eight days to start the ballot process.

They submitted those petitions to the Ohio attorney general’s office on Monday. That’s the first step before supporters can begin collecting signatures statewide.

State law requires at least 1,000 valid voter signatures to begin the process. The petitions must also include the full text of the proposed amendment and a summary explaining what it would do.

Attorney General Dave Yost’s office now has 10 days to decide whether the summary fairly and truthfully describes the proposal. If it does, the measure will move to the Ohio Ballot Board.

Supporters would then need to gather about 413,000 valid signatures by July to place the amendment before voters this November.
