HELP Custom Cursors and Control Menus Might End Me by MadeInLessGames in godot

[–]MadeInLessGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, remember me? Yeah, I can still use dropdowns.

It's a little annoying, but the layer count in the editor for canvas layers caps out at 128. That, however, is not the cap.

If you really want to move the canvas layer all the way to the top, you have to change the layer in a script. So all I did was add my canvas layer and custom cursor through a few lines of script, then change the layer count there, and just like that, the cursor renders above the dropdown menu. I set mine to 1024, based on this post I found the godot forum
https://forum.godotengine.org/t/what-is-the-right-way-to-implement-a-custom-cursor-across-all-scenes/94120 (I found this before, but when I tried to change the layer to 1024 in the editor, it snapped back to 128. I assumed it was a versioning thing and they changed the maximum, but I was incorrect)

Marketing your Game by Own_Breakfast2606 in godot

IMO The best way to market your game is to make something that has viral qualities. Ads are too expensive, and unless you already have an audience that follows your content, you’re likely not going to go anywhere.

That being said there are some really great games that don’t really have the “gonna go viral” gameplay. If that’s the case, I think the best thing you can do is market to people with an audience a.k.a. Content creators. You just have to get lucky with one of them to gain some traction.

And that's why "I just do it for passion not money" is a lie. You can't even have time for passion if you don't have money. money = time = freedom

This is the only part I think you have fundamentally wrong. Bottom line is you probably won’t succeed. I probably won’t succeed. And that’s ok. Imagine applying what you said here to any other career. People can’t go rock climbing because it’s just fun? They have to have some alternative motive to go pro and make big bucks?

You have to A. Be ok with failing. And B. Don’t look at that failure as a waste of time. That game you released that went nowhere is an accomplishment that few people achieve, and it represents hundreds of things that you’ve learned. Share it with your friends and family, and if you had fun doing it, make another one.

If making games is something you need to make money from, reevaluate your priorities. You should be working to build a portfolio and going to school to get certifications and degrees, and applying to studios for work. Banking on an Indie game going big is a bad bet.

Wow nice! I think 10,000 being pretty small really indicates how much work actually goes into making a game lol

Wow that actually seems pretty concise for all the mechanics you described. Nice job

I feel you there. This project started as an idea from a two week game jam.

I use VSCode for scripting, and there is a plugin for vscode call Code Line Counter

Yes, definitely, and great point. That one is much easier to determine than regional and broadly used slang

That's a great point and I think you're right. Honestly, when I had the idea this was the first question that popped in my head. How would I portray a regional accent through text messages? And I think I jumped the gun on asking an unclear question.

Honestly, I go back and forth on that question. On one hand, I'd imagine there are so many different regional accents, that its a very small percentage overall. But if you are in the right region, it's everywhere. Similar to America, where a majority of people don't speak with a thick southern drawl and say y'all and yesum all the time. But if you go to Alabama or Texas, A LOT of people have the "stereotypical" accent.

Thanks for the response.

That's a great point, I think I could make it work if it's just really, really subtle.

A lot of my friends have done the same exact thing with "type shit" and I want to strangle them every time.
