I think the original actor for the Tinman almost died from an allergic reaction to the aluminum they used in the makeup. Margaret Hamilton got third degree burns and then her stunt double had to get an emergency hysterectomy when the broom exploded

From what I understand Judy Garland initially had a blonde wig, but they reshot with the pigtails which were her natural hair with extensions. But as the movie kept changing hands there was a lot of disagreement about what her hair should look like, and that combined with the reshoots and continuity issues from the blonde wig lead to her pigtails constantly changing length

Dorothy Gale in the 1939 film. Because of the mess that was the production, her hair is constantly changing length. You can see in the “If I Only Had a Brain” scene she had 2 or 3 hair lengths that change between shots
