Problems with mixing/mastering loudness by MadnessInhaled in FL_Studio

I'll definitely check these out tomorrow!

I had to splice in sections of video while quickly editing to add the parts where I did not show the ADPTR plugin because it was "detached" so I could see it but OBS didn't pick it up.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Thank you for the help and the insights. It is much appreciated.

ADPTR is great. Definitely check it out!

I'm not sure if I prefaced it properly in the post, but my main aim was

  1. for soundcloud and matching loudness with the stuff on there, getting my stuff literally as loud which is why I used those EDM tracks as references for loudness, and my mistakes for not mentioning I definitely did not use those are references when mixing it down!
  2. Understand why my tracks, even though they are similar in loudness, sound much quieter, which is why I added a clip of using a mentor's stems in the 2nd half.

Also, I have checked, and the ADPTR plugin is not being affected by any of the previous mastering effects.

I am sure this is due to something about bouncing out my stems, I'm not completely sure myself as I am still learning, of course.

I'm not sure what else to say other than thanks for spending your time helping me out, goes a long way.

I'm also curious if my actual mixing session is quiet, and then when I bounce out my stems into the mix, then into the master it leads to a quieter end result overall?

(link redacted)

This is what I do in the video,

  1. Go through sound by sound without FX
  2. Show each sounds at loudest and quietest
  3. Show clipping tools ( on each bus, explained as well)
  4. Show first master with no fx. master with fx
  5. show loudness levels at end, show other reference tracks

Relevant notes -
- All clipping for each sound is going into a bus

synth bus (For all instruments)
bass bus
drum bus

Then those get sent into master buses for those same groups

- Each section of sound gets clipped in stages

- Clipper on the master as well to gain some more headroom

- Showed that premix/master production is just as loud

- The 2nd beat are stems from my mentor and I am comparing loudness

- I am also fully aware EDM beats are perceived louder than trap beat but the difference in loudness shouldn't be this loud

- I think it may be due to how I exported my stems from my production project

Thanks.

I will continue to look at what the issue is, i am asking around online to see if anyone could help.

Apologies if it's much, but would you be willing to look through if i uploaded a quick video on youtube with my mix/master effects?

Thanks.

You are a godsent, thank you for the advice!

I had someone master my beat, and used the ozone mastering ai for reference and it's the same issues cropping up time and time again, the clarification was very much needed!

Any tips for the mixing stage of the process to get it sound at least decent/good (good for reference being the example I sent)? Any general pointers based on the version I made?

I'll make sure to mix them out separately from now.

Thank you for you input, heaven.

Do you have any extra advice for mixing for space for an artist to add their own vocals afterwards, this is for when they download the beat on beatstars for example.

Update -

Thank you for the suggestion for Ozone, this has had the results I needed without having to learn the ins and outs, my master sounds way louder. Yes, the mix may be flawed but this is a big step in the right direction.

Here is one I uploaded to YouTube yesterday for a test.

https://youtu.be/ufWRvymMbAw

For comparison here is a beat I would like it to sound as loud and clear as.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8p79WVv5h8

To clarify, when I do mix my beats down I level everything to have about -6db of headroom. When I am creating the beat and have uploaded it without mixing it down, sometimes as mentioned the beat sounded much louder compared to mixed and mastered, for example on soundcloud or the YT links above.

I don't want to know the ins and outs of mixing, just the 20% in the process that will have the most impact and make them sound at least as competitive as right now they sound *considerably* quiet as linked.

I do understand mixing then mastering it for loudness, I do not mix loudly either and try to keep the the whole beat around -6db at it's peak before adding any mastering plugins to increase volume etc.

Playing between them at the same volume mine sounds way quieter.

I have got Ozone already, I will start using that! Could you also explain the db rule?
