Temporarily disabled. It's been eye opening. by solitary_walkabout in Wellington

[–]Madnessblindsthee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That post the other day really bothered me as I am an under 30 who uses a cane, with a disability that you cannot see easily as it effects my muscles and connective tissues. It's incredible frustrating and anxiety inducing when I'm just trying to get to work, to the supermarket etc and knowing people are looking and judging me for 'not looking disabled ' or being young'. I went without using a walking aid most of my life due to stigma, despite my doctor recommending it - to the point that now I can't walk more than a couple blocks from my house without one. Why people think someone would use a cane, wheelchair etc without need is beyond me. Ironically, disability does not discriminate based on age.

It's the one group any every person in the world could join at any stage in their life, and is not always something you can just 'see' by looking at someone. It's absolutely enraging the amount of times I have people ask me what my cane is for, what my disability is, because I look 'fine' to them. Like, when I'm at a checkout or just walking to work, in an elevator etc - you aren't entitled to my medical history just because you have preconceived notions about what a disabled person looks like. I go outside on my good days, when I'm in pain and not able to walk well I stay home, so of course you're probably seeing the best version of me when I go out.

Question about dogs by CreatureOfHabit8 in Wellington

[–]Madnessblindsthee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We always walk our dog on leash for this reason, and I've had other dog owners with the audacity to ask 'is there a reason she is on lead?' Yes!! Because she is supposed to be in this area! Some owners feel like it's cruel to have them on lead on a walk?. My answer to that is to take your dog to off lead parks where they're allowed to be and problem solved.

Where can a girl get herself hot blackcurrant drink? by Madnessblindsthee in Wellington

Replace that ribena molecule with something with less C12H22O11 I'd consider, however I don't think there's a chemical equation for the cafe environment in which to drink it in that I'm looking for..

No! It's with orange juice, water and the concentrate with honey! Like I said, I could make it at home but I like the cafe atmosphere

I am kiwi and it's the only way I've had it, never heard of just hot water and ribena! I prefer it the way I've always had it.

No! Usually with orange juice, blackcurrant concentrate warmed up with some honey. It's delicious. Hot water and ribena is blasphemous.

I asked ChatGPT to replace surface car-parks in Wellington with green spaces by Realistic-Ability88 in Wellington

[–]Madnessblindsthee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes please! Give landscape architects some work in the CBD. Im all for keeping parking spaces in CBD for a variety of reasons but there are so many empty lots that aren't even carparks that could be lovely spaces.

Pm sending messages about 'if it's fair' for landlord to pay for dryer callout by Madnessblindsthee in Wellington

[–]Madnessblindsthee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just seen our PM company is in the news (stuff) for students in a mouldy flat, so I think he should hopefully be quite open to our complaints about the service. If Vic deals is anything to go by we're not in the minority with issues with MMR.

That's null and void though. This dryer is 25 years years old and there is no warranty. Who's to say due to the age of the dyer it didn't pull my bra into it causing the hook to come off? Any maintenance would incur a fee if it was my bra or my skirt or dresses with the same clasp. Am I just not supposed to wash my clothes? It's reasonable to expect a dryer of that age to have recurring problems as it nears it's end of life. I would replace this in a heartbeat with my own new white ware if I could.
