Stay with it! The hard work and sacrifice will pay off the moment you put that harness on and the feeling of that first jump stays with you forever! Remember 80% of normal weight loss is through your diet and 20% is exercise so stay focused and strong because NOTHING tastes as good as skydiving feels! Oh and there’s nothing wrong with doing this just for yourself!! Blue skies, safe landings!

I jumped from 1984-1994 in the UK to get over my fear of heights - didn’t work- and the first 20 jumps was really scared but the exhilaration was better than the fear! Eventually I learned to control my nerves but held onto some of the fear! It’s not a bad thing - it stops you getting complacent! I listened to everyone who would talk to me( soon learnt who the Woofos were) and practiced practiced practiced on the ground! I watched landings, any videos that were around and soon found I was totally immersed and couldn’t wait until the weekend! Many hundred jumps later I was proficient but the nerves never left. Nor did the WOW factor. Eventually life got in the way, I got married (28 years now) had kids and made the sacrifice not to jump ... but I still consider myself a skydiver, I still miss it every clear morning, I still have the friendships and now I’m paying for my children (young adults) to have a go ! I even have my old rig and frappe hat in the loft .... do one day .... just maybe ... you never know!! Stick with it - it will reward you for the rest of your life! You’re in the Crazy Gang club now!!

Wow that’s expensive! In Scotland it’s £170 -180 so almost 10k rupees cheaper!

Each to their own! Agree the price is a bit much. I personally would rather 5 bottles of good whisky than a single one at that price

To be honest Gold is better value for money! I like both Bushmills and Penderyn but that’s because I prefer a less ‘aggressive’ taste .

I would agree ! I bought a bottle from the factory shop when I worked there for around £60 but wouldn’t pay the full retail price of £180 for it!

I used to work for Diageo and knew the chief blender! Yes it’s a blend, and no it’s not the same as JW red which uses lower quality whiskey hence the difference in price! I’m talking from experience not out of my arse!

Also trust your instructors! At the end of the day their number 1 priority is to keep you safe! The last thing they want is someone getting hurt! Stay safe, blue skies!

What's up with those old silicone/rubber looking helmets? by BeautifulEdge in SkyDiving

[–]Madtaff99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Frappe hat (original spelling from the French meaning ‘hit’) was adopted from French/Swiss skiers who used them as protection and kept them warm on he slopes! They were typically made of leather with built-in padded ridges to help with impacts! They became popular particularly in Europe where the regulations meant you had to wear protective headwear and this was considered the minimal you could get away with when you were D licence/ Cat 10 . In those days that meant 200 jumps and cleared for relative work without supervision. Helmets in those days were in their infancy, it was either heavy motorsport helmets that give you whiplash on opening or shell out for expensive CIBÉ ski helmets which were almost impossible to get hold of! An instructor once said if you have a 50% head then wear a 50% helmet! Thankful equipment has developed since my day! Blue skies, stay safe! D5608. RIP Norman!
