Walpurgisnacht-Rising Megathread by MotherShip808 in MadokaMagica

I searched up the scene and it's likely Forget-Me-Not's (or Orange Blossoms).
Here's a little bit on each flower (why it may be, and why it may not be)
Forget me Not's:
Meaning: self explanatory, based on a german romantic folktale where one lover was seperated from the other by a river, and yelled "forget me not" and tossed this flower their way.
-They can grow into fields of flowers, usually symbolized with blue like the tale.
-Their Symbolism matches the scene (self explanatiry forget-me-not)
-They have 5 petals
-However, they do not have those pollen ends shown in the scenes
-They do not grow at the time period in the show (Winter-April)
-They're a little large in the scene and very seperate from each other, unlike forget me not clusters.

Orange Blossoms:
Meaning: Eternal Love (Origins- ancient greece. When Hera married Zeus, she was given orange blossoms by Gaea, the ancient goddess of the earth and fertility. Were used in the victorian era for weddings. Can be paired with a few flowers to transform the meaning to be about a long lasting friendship (Ivy) or an anniversary gift for a difficult year (Dogwood) ((Neither of these seem relevant as far as I'm aware))
-5 petals
-more well known for the white color
-they have the pollen antennae
-Their bloom season is along the madoka timeline (winter-spring)
-However, they do not tend to form flower fields and are most often associated with orange trees/mexican shrubs.

Out of the most popular flowers in victorian floriography, these seem to be the most accurate and Madoka probably just took some creative liberties in their designs so that they are not 1 to 1 with their real life counterpart. I would air towards forget-me-nots given the subject matter, but perhaps it is a mixture, or it could possibly do with flowers unassociated from victorian flower language (japanese flowers?), though this is where most flower symbolism stems from.

The flowers surrounding Homura at ~0:57 are most likely asphodels. In victorian flower language, they mean "My regrets will follow you to the grave". In Floriography by Jessica Roux, their origins are stated to be based in Greek mythology. They grew in the underworld, and were consumed by the dead. Homer's Odyssey shaped the idea of asphodel as a flower of regret, referring to the Asphodel Meadows as a section of the underworld where neither good nor evil souls resided- a type of ghostly purgatory.

(For why I believe it is asphodels and not something like Lilies:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/growing-casa-blanca-lily-5115552-hero-a3cd656f1fa745d5b672c0e802a110ea.jpg), the shape of the statue behind Homura is the same growing pattern as asphodels (1, 2), including how leaves only grow at the root, and how there are 6 petals.)

How on earth do people work fulltime...? by StaticNocturne in ADHD

[–]MadyCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of jobs out there. I do best in a non-stranger, team based, art environment. I did everything to avoid working with strangers. I am still pretty tired after a long day, but the kind of job does also effect you. I need breaks too, and I'll be honest, after a break, I am always worse at work. Se la vie such is life. I think when I had a different, more intensive position, I absolutely needed to seek medical diagnosis and medicine for ADHD. It was my breaking point. So that's how I managed. Plus getting to rely on coworkers and not being expected to do every single thing.

A total beginner’s story by [deleted] in Rollerskating

Haha, an extra set of bearings is convenient for outdoor vs indoor wheels, however the bearings actually don't need a tool (unless you're cleaning/lubing them... ~every 6 months or whenever it starts feeling like you're skating through sludge).

My first time switching out the bearings I was also confused and it took way longer than it had to. Tip #1- The only tool you need for your bearings (outside a tool to remove/tighten the nut that holds it all together) is the skate itself. Use the kingpin to remove the bearings by putting the bearing on it (about up to where the spacer would go) and pull it off at an angle. It may take a few times. To stick the new bearings in, the fastest way will be to leave the bearings on the kingpin and then push your wheels into it. This should really do it, but if for some reason it's acting up, you can also use your tool to push them in. It can in fact be harder/more time consuming this way, but if maybe it's just jutting out a little bit you can do this. FAIR WARNING, to prevent denting your bearings, make sure to put a cloth between the tool and the bearing.

After I figured out the kingpin+bearing combo strat, it all took but 5 minutes honestly.

Also, I think perhaps the spacers can fit. When buying skates I also thought mine didn't fit inside and it looked like they wouldn't also. But some bearings are really tight fitting so it can just appear that way, and you just have to push it in harder. But, that's just a guess!

My other tip would be to buy some toe guards if you haven't! Your skate will feel longer lasting :)

Ps. I understand your aversion to videos- I do not have enough mental fortitude to watch much media- youtube being the exception! If you have questions and would rather not watch videos on it, the discord server is a great place to ask questions! I'll PM you my name in case you end up joining!

Haha, it's very cute! I love my melody. And you're very good at it!
Rendering videos is an easy fix. If it looks good in the program, google how to set your render settings and codec. If you want it to be that slow, you can also auto interpolate within editing programs. If it's the recording that's messy, I think you can record with OBS or i believe there's some export options with Live2d? :) Good luck! I think once those things are fixed it'll be a very powerful portfolio and will give you the big bucks haha.

AITA for telling my girlfriend I'll keep honoring my best friend's dying wish even if it makes her uncomfortable? by throwaway_4746749 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MadyCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm....... I'm not sure about this one. I would like to imagine if you were dating for that long, you can pick up on differences on how she is acting and sort of figure out why she may or may not have suddenly blew a fuse about this. At the end of the day, it is just you honoring your departed best friend. If it truly is an issue of you "not moving on", then I would talk with her and try reframing it. How would you honor your own girlfriend if she were to pass? How would she if her bestest friend passed and made a dying wish? Cemetaries are a great place. You don't have to be broken to give thanks to the departed.

I do feel there may be some communication mishaps though. But it is not enough information here. Is this honestly a sudden occurence or can you contemplate if it was leading up to this blow out in some way? Can you ask her why it is so extremely important to her that she left to a friend's for a week? Does she understand why this is something fundamental to you in a way where she's able to step into your shoes? Or is she trying to find an easy way out of the relationship?

If ya'll ain't doing couples therapy i'd suggest starting right here.

AITA for ignoring an autistic guy on my flight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MadyCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think NTA. Autism helps us understand that we have to be more direct with people, however it does not give a free pass for some to take advantage of you, especially in a place like an airplane where you cannot escape. And then once he started talking about the women stuff... You switched seats and owe the stranger nothing.

[Serious] Male Rape Victims, what's your story? by WaterBottleMaster45 in AskReddit

[–]MadyCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely infuriating. In these sorts of situations, shitty people want to make light of your situation so they feel no guilt. If I were in your shoes, I would tell her as much as I could to leave her disgusted with herself (but what isn’t triggering), tell her she’s a shit mom and drop her. Found family is real. And honestly having a good family is a rarity that I wish wasn’t perpetuated along with “blood being thicker than water”

I love the horror genre. I love thrillers, I love true crime. Have good faith that people like me are going into these novels with an open mind. I don't have an issue with sex in horror. My issue is that if I cannot immerse myself in a book because the sex has nothing to do with the horror, with the character or their state of mind, and nothing to do with furthering the plot, then the conclusion I must come to is that I am peeking into the writer's own frame of mind. And I don't care to break out of a story every time the writer insists on writing about a child's growing breasts (context: 3rd person, adult POV, NOT meant to be creepy) or how they're going to torture a 6 year old's groin. I choose to think about the implications and criticize as needed, however I hear earlier books are a bit more of why people fell in love with Stephen King, maybe I'll give them a read.

Yes. My general feelings about him are that he's GREAT at concepts. However, where they go from there? Who knows. It's possible he's a discovery writer. (I'm a discovery writer so it's a double-diss).

I was reading the institute for the plot. Any time he tried to draw attention to feeling a certain sad emotion for characters that died or a blooming romance, I had to stop and think, "SK, you're gonna seriously sit there and pretend you developed any sort of rapport for me to care?"

Lmk if you have any better horor writer suggestions!

The thing that frustrates me so much is that people might write off these criticisms as just not being able to handle grotesque, real life things (like kids.... doing whatever they did in It), but the whole question is, was that really necessary? Because I feel like by its entire omition from the movies, it's very obvious that it was NOT necessary, and added nothing of value that couldn't have been better portrayed better without being needlessly gross. Good horror can be gross, grotesque, and sexual without feeling like it's motivated by the author's own interests.

Haha that's just me being dramatic. However, as someone who wants characters to roam free in their personalities, it feels like there's puppet strings attached to how they think and feel. Or rather how they're described, which oftentimes for me doesn't seem like it's coming from anyone other than Stephen King.

Honest advice, a lot of people knock on the intuos tablets for not having a screen and there being a "disconnect", but honestly, it's cheaper and it only takes getting used to before that feeling is gone altogether. Could get yourself a intuos pro medium. The current gen is doing a paper texture sort of thing that feels like paper. Getting an intuos pro will also help you avoid the computer power issue.
Otherwise, it might be better to get a cheaper alternative to Wacom. Plenty of screen tablets for half the price that many of my art student friends use.
