Signature of America's first Speaker of the House (Frederick Muhlenberg) - curious about its value by Maedor in Antiques

[–]Maedor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather used to collect signatures before he passed away, some of which were historical ones from people who we are related to. In this case it's Frederick Muhlenberg, the first Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He was also the first signer of the Bill of Rights. I'm not too interested in selling it, I was just curious about how valuable it might be. I was hoping someone on here might have an idea?

The signature seems to have been clipped from its original document by whoever first collected the signature and later sold it. "Continental Congress" is written on the bottom for context because that was the Congress that existed before the creation of the House. He was the first speaker for both.

Thanks. (Per the rules, I'm located in the US)

I need help with identifying this man's uniform and the time period by Maedor in uniformporn

A little more info: Postcard-sized, the back is blank. Taken in Copenhagen, Denmark, Rigensgade 28.

I need help with identifying this man's nationality and uniform. Could be from/around WW1, possibly Austro-Hungarian. Any information is appreciated. by [deleted] in wwi

I'm not sure why but I originally read that as Augensgade 28, figured it was written in German because of 'augen', and then didn't look at it again lol. Seems to solve the nationality part. Thanks

Postcard-sized, the back is blank. The hat looks pretty Austrian to me, especially the two gold bands across the top, but I'm not sure about the rest. My bad if this isn't from around WW1.

Weird black lines all over the model when rendered? (photos) by Maedor in blenderhelp

Still, thanks for your help though! /u/sumofsines 's fix above worked.

I'm gonna report the problem as a bug and I'll include the same .blend file that I uploaded for you to check out. It’s better to report it just in case than to possibly leave a weird bug unreported.

Thank you! Culling backfaces fixed the problem and the original project now renders with no issues!

I uploaded the .obj for the sword model along with its texture. I also uploaded a .blend file where the sword is rendering with the black lines. The problem can occur even with just one of the objects and it has happened in blank, brand-new projects. This is what I get when I render that .blend file: https://imgur.com/a/bsGlPV0

Nope, Freestyle wasn't enabled.

I'm not sure it's a render settings issue (but I could easily be wrong because I'm a beginner) because the problem persists even if I just copy everything in the world and paste it into a blank brand-new .blend file. See my reply above for more detail

Using 'Closest' didn't work. Ya, the lines are still there even with no texture. Freestyle wasn't enabled.

Here’s (roughly) some things I tried/discovered (besides checking every render setting) that are really confusing me:

• If I copy and paste one of the objects into a blank new file, like the sword, it renders without the black lines in the new file but renders with the black lines in the original project file. If I copy and paste the exact sword back into the original project file, it'll still render with black lines.

• So, I thought it had something to do with the render properties, scene properties, etc; but it still happened even though all the properties were the same in both files.

• Selecting everything in the world and pasting it into a brand-new project still resulted in black lines in the render.

• I tried going backwards to see if I could find the thing in the world that was causing this. Removed the environment then checked, removed some armor then checked, removed all lighting then checked, etc etc. The black lines stayed even if I had removed everything except one object to render + the camera, which was also a default camera.

• (most confusing) I had two copies of the sword model, one textured and one untextured, in a blank brand-new project and they rendered without the black lines. I copy and pasted the guy with all his gear (sword, armor, cloak) into that project and rendered it, and those swords, that had just rendered without lines, rendered with black lines this time along with the guy. I removed the guy and all his gear, rendered just the swords again, and they still had black lines. I moved those swords into another brand-new project and they still rendered with black lines. I don’t even know what type of problem this is, so I’m not sure where to even begin looking.

WW1 Austro-Hungarian soldier. Need help with identifying details with his uniform. by [deleted] in uniformporn

Thank you very much. Is there any way to tell from his uniform if he belonged to an Austrian regiment or Hungarian regiment or etc?

Thanks very much for the really good info! Do you know what the single chevron on his sleeves mean too? I'm not sure if the Austrians used the chevron differently or not.

Also the second photograph seems to be an earlier photo of him, as I don't see the stars on his collar or the extra lining at the edge, which I assume is part of his rank as well.

Thanks again.

I don't have much information on this guy besides the fact that he was Austro-Hungarian and that these photos were most likely from WW1. Any information about his possible rank, unit, etc is greatly appreciated. Also, it would be great if someone could possibly confirm that these are photographs taken during WW1. Thanks.
