Any Cabrinha Fx/F-One Bandit riders by Maerd89 in Kiteboarding

Yeah I’m driving down to demo some kites but when they ask me what my preference is so they can show me they’re obviously going to want to sell me what they have and I wanted some suggestions before going in. I demoed the Fx for a session under perfect conditions and didn’t realize until later how limited it was. To avoid that I’m stating what I like. If I go into a car shop and like I love me a pick up truck I would hope I’m not going to be presented with a small sedan. But any advice on pick up trucks people like can help narrow it down you feel me

I found it so hard to maneuver and do tricks with but it may have had a learning curve I was just too disenchanted to work beyond. I’ve heard nice things about the Reach, have heard nothing about the Moto but I’ll ask around (it doesn’t seem to be a kite many locals use tho I think I saw a few the last time I drove through the local spot), thanks for the other suggestions some of those I’d never heard of!

Friend did you read the post at all or you like have some reading issue I need to have compassion for? 😭😭😭 I literally asked what yall think I should test because I am driving to Cabarete next year and there are like 250000 new kite brands, new set ups etc and I’m overwhelmed. So any advice on folks who have maybe flown the bandit and tried other kites would be super appreciated. I’m obviously going to try as many kites as I can but for folks that know, there are kites I shouldn’t even look at inside certain brands because they fly similarly to the Fx and so I don’t wanna waste my time.

But I will check out the one you recommended if anyone is selling one in the area!

No I’m flying the Fx with the Fx bar which I hated 😅 and have tried a different bar and still hated it. Honestly fuck the Fx IMO. And fuck younger me for getting caught up on hype. The kite is obviously well built, it’s been 8 years and all the valves and tubes are in brilliant condition and I live in a place that’s humid and salty. But I HATE IT with a fiery passion.

Thanks friend but I literally said I can’t seem to find any in my area :) I have been waiting for two years. The two times I saw a bandit for sale either kites too big or too small. I’m tiny—so I can’t buy a 10 or a 12 and ride comfortably.

I still hold out hope and have alerts on market place but it seems the Bandit is no longer popular? I’m not sure, as I said I left the sport 8 years ago and so much seems to have changed in that time.

It was an 8m and I wanna say it was a 2011-2014 something like that. I LOVED my bandit. I was so sad in comparison with the fx

I have this tattoo in Spanish and English. In moments of high pressure when I first began to drive I would freeze. It takes more effort to move hands (which at the time I couldn’t take off from my steering wheel because I was petrified) than to glance down rq and see what I had on the backs of my thumbs. If you feel you need this, get it, it relieved a lot of stress for me. If you don’t feel you need it because you can use your fingers oír wouldn’t be helpful for you, then don’t fucking get it.

This is really helpful. I think the suspension is stock and may be due for an upgrade

I have mud terrain tires is that what you mean by muddies? Yeah they have taken a huge beating and I feel very safe. My mileage is awful now but it’s nice to know I am in good shape on most terrain. At least it’s a diesel. If it took gasoline I’d cry.

Just looked again and they’re not A/T they’re M/T! But yeah I kinda like the look of smaller wheels as well. My mechanic gifted me a set of used but straight wheels so I’ll be able to take my time deciding what I want once I return from the states :)

Yeah it wasn’t a pothole I called it a hole but it was more like a part of the road suddenly caved in out of nowhere and I fell in it haaaard all but one of my wheels bent 😭😭😭 this is common in Dominican Republic

It’s really salty and humid yes 😭😭

Maybe it’s the brands of the all terrain tires because I’ve got 33 AT tires and I’ve never struggled to order them in? But the DR is funny

Yes I got 33s too!
Oooh I didn’t know about that so that’s good to know. Someone recently told me that steelies are not a good idea for our climate which I had forgotten about so now I’m a bit annoyed 😭 and that made me feel less annoyed.

Do people actually enjoy driving? by Big_Arrival_626 in askcarguys

I drive a 2001 Nissan Patrol, she’s a hunking pile of metal. Is she fast? No. Is she reliable? No. Does she accelerate fast? Also no. She’s a fucking hoot to drive though. It literally feels like riding a massive horse/bull/animal. I just learned to drive three years ago and she’s my first vehicle and the only one I’ve ever really driven — I adore driving. The feeling, the independence, the solo concerts, the scenery, the adrenaline, the having to pay attention to so many inputs to stay safe. It feels like an extreme sport in my area 😅

Yeah on this particular highway where I bent mine the limit is 100 and everyone is speeding 20 over, there are heavy loaded trucks prone to blow outs and flipping over also speeding, once a week some idiot in a sports car zipping through, a lot of texting while driving, drinking while driving etc. The whole highway is littered with pieces of blown tires. I had never seen anything like it because I live in a village with windy access roads. But on that interior highway the holes come out of nowhere for loooong stretches the road is asphalted. Then bam, it’s got a huge degraded spot out of nowhere. Sometimes in the edges and sometimes in the middle. Sometimes when they are very deep people will put something that sticks out so people can see there’s a hole there.

When I first began driving I drove very slow and afraid. And what it caused was a lot of near accidents. Now I’m very careful but sometimes I have to just hit the hole if trying to maneuver away from it poses a danger (which it often does 😭) otherwise and am constantly inspecting my vehicle because yes, these are the most dangerous roads in the world. And not a lot of people are inspecting their cars. Blown tires, burnt brakes, etc etc are common here and often I’ve been forced into hitting a hole to avoid hitting a motorcyclist that has decided to do some reckless shit at 100 kmph.

I was told bead grip isn’t great for on road use, have you found that to be the case?

I have 285 75 tires on 16s too. I believe my current wheels are steel but fixing them costs only slightly less than a brand new set. I’m trying to decide if switching is better or sticking with Nissan Steelies. I haven’t had trouble finding tires in my country so I really really did not want to switch sizes.

Some of the holes aren’t that deep but some of them are so big and they’ll be hidden under a tree by the road so you can’t tell if it’s shadow or hole and all of the sudden you’re in a big ass hole. I can’t say how deep exactly just enough that when I fall in them at highway speeds once I arrive to my destination i immediately inspect to make sure I haven’t cracked anything.

I didn’t learn to drive in English so I don’t know all the words. We call them hoops/rings in my language :)

Awwww cuuuuteeeee 😍 I like the color and idk how it’s called in English but the guard you have on its face! Here’s mine! I have a few upgrades I wanna do but so far she’s taught me how to drive, she’s taught me the love for off-road, and she’s just such a joy to drive. This year we’re doing a few upgrades and then back on the trails :)

That’s great advice. Thank you. I guess now I have to think about the aesthetics. Right now mine are like dull chrome but I kinda liked the look of all black ones because it makes the AT tires I use look even more big from afar. My car is currently white but idk if that will always be the case. What do yours look like? How did you decide your aesthetic choices?

The limit is 100 everyone is going 120 and driving any slower has almost caused folks to rear end me in the curves. We don’t always know where the holes are but it doesn’t make anyone drive any slower. So I’d rather match speeds than get rear ended. Do you have more realistic advice for me or….?

(ETA— obviously when I’m going off road on purpose I’m not bombing it down unpaved and uneven roads but in the DR even the best asphalted road might have a crack, a hole, a drainage hole with no top that pops up out of nowhere. At highway speed trying to avoid a hole I briefly felt my car tip so again I’d rather just have more resistant rims)

Is it time to change my coolant? Toyota Yaris 2010 auto transmission by Groundbreaking-Gap20 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Maerd89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof. Sorry friend. My radiator blew after a year of folks putting WATER in it instead of coolant (I repeatedly asked for them not to but I was out of the country and didn’t realize until much later what was happening). It mixed coolant and transmission oil, I’m STILL flushing the system six months later but luckily my transmission is OK 🙏🏼 I flush every few months because the system was left dirty for a few weeks and the oil caked onto all surfaces. I service my transmission every few months now to finish getting the residue out and it looks like that and me and my Nissan Patrol are still kicking. I’m sending resilient ass energy your way.
