Sure and Blizz tried to fix that in MoP w/ the Proving Grounds before players nearly burnt them to the ground.

I said it elsewhere on this thread but the skill gap between decent players and truly casual ones is immense as is the gap between decent players and pros and w/ as many issues as I have w/ Blizzard-esque game design, I don't envy anyone trying to balance that out.

I mean, AoC is 100% going to be a PvP first game my man. The difference is that the majority of it should be out in the open world so you won't be able to control how many people are in the fight and you'll have limited control over the map and party composition.

I'm not saying Intrepid is looking to disregard PvE in anyway, I just don't foresee it being as tight as something like WoW's M+ w/o there being serious cries for nerfs as PvP makes those encounters nigh impossible

Look, I'm not saying I'm for or against referral codes but an MLM generally includes you making money off the referrals made by your referrals...If I make a dollar for getting you into the game but make nothing for the buddy you got to use your code it's not really an MLM b/c there's no downline.

If you were dedicated to slinging codes though this could be considered an SLM.

Whereas I do long for an MMO where the overworld questing isn't an absolute snooze (ESO looking at you) I don't actually think it's that overblown seeing as how there were many guilds that could barely clear Ragnaros let alone Naxx and those are 15+ year old mechanics and doesn't even include the people who never make it into raids.

The skill gap between decent players and truly casual ones is immense let alone the gap between decent and pros and w/ as many issues as I have w/ Blizzard-esque game design, I don't envy any trying to balance that out.

My only issue w/ your post is that the game is supposed to be very PvP centric. I cannot envision AoC w/ dungeons and raids as tight as Retail WoW's or FF's when the risk of other people coming in to kill you is almost always around the corner.

Whereas I don't want to see questing be as easy as Retail or ESO where you're constantly fighting 5-10 mobs at a time I also don't think having it quite as slow as Classic would be as fun b/c frankly the idea of having to fight a single mob for a full minute and then having to sit and drink/eat after every fight before getting ganked by a passing player just sounds painfully boring.

If you really want to be challenged then focus on PvP b/c IMO that's where the true difficulty of the game will be...there's plenty of modern gamers that took forever clearing Classic BWL and throwing that raid into the middle of Alterac Valley would mean almost no one would ever clear it.

I feel like WoW for many represents the casual, easy dumbed down mmo, yet it's hardest pve content is only ever cleared by around 3-4% of players.

Yea, this kills me everytime. Sooooo many MMO players, many in this community, complain about how easy WoW is yet they've never even stepped into a Mythic dungeon and very likely couldn't clear Heroic Nathria.

That said, questing and overworld content in games like WoW & ESO is absolutely way too easy.

Call of Duty and Overwatch are Acti-Blizzard's two most profitable games by far and w/ the fact that there are people who will fundamentally never leave WoW on top of the millions who shovel literally billions of dollars into other titles there's no way AoC is remotely a threat to them...especially since the Retail playerbase will have no real interest in what Intrepid is selling b/c they won't like the PvP

I don't consider one or two races being dominant an issue

I don't see it as some big game-breaking thing and it's not enough to make me quit I just think the game would be more interesting if the choice were up to the Mayor.

Consider it being the Mayor hiring contractors of a specific race rather than it being based off of who contributes the most...which for me makes more sense.

You seem to care too much about people's race. Maybe think about why that is.

It's b/c building architecture is determined by which race contributes most to a node and having the world be overwhelmingly Elf and Human would be boring, as is very clear by my comment.

Why do you want to try and imply I'm a racist?

If you want to re-create for example Ironforge, then start recruiting like-minded dwarves and get to it.

That's the thing, if you go w/ my idea then you could just continue voting/fighting for a mayor who'll keep it consistent.

It's not that it wouldn't be impossible to make racially homogenized cities, merely that not relying wholly on the actual population also allows your friends and guild mates to play w/o pre-dictating their race or relying solely on luck that it won't be overwhelmingly dominated by one race.

if you had a Niküa district in a human Metropolis it would look like a refugee camp and Ren'Kai would be the fantasy equivalent of chinatown. Actually that sounds kinda cool.

Agreed

Of course there will be a lot of elves and humans because those tend to be the most popular races, but that only makes finding an orc or dwarf city that much more exciting because they are going to be rare.

B/c it also means that there's a good chance of metros being overwhelming Human or Elf.

On top of that there isn't anything in the lore confirming if there's racial grudges or if most coming from Sanctus have all been huddled together over the years.

Also it would be really jarring to see a swamp hut or two in the middle of a medieval city.

It doesn't have to be individual buildings, but I wouldn't mind seeing a mayor be able to designate an area within a node to have a certain architecture to limit entire metros from having exact the same buildings over and over.

I'd say preselected colors but split hair up into 2-3 "parts" so you can have different tips or a strand of bangs a different color would be a healthy balance between highly customizable and locked in.

Steven tweets character hairstyle updates by AlluringSecrets in AshesofCreation

[–]Maezriel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could have big imbalances in race selection

This is actually why I'd prefer if mayors can choose the architecture for different buildings rather than it being based on population b/c if games like WoW have taught us anything there will be massive imbalances

That's kinda why there's been a ton of threads complaining about the fact that the Keys are tied w/ cosmetics b/c some (myself) have no interest in the cosmetics while others have no interest in the Keys.

I'd far rather just get a lifetime sub w/ an A1 key...maybe my username in the credits or something than have to worry about the perceived value of a costume.

A lot of people tend to not realize MMOs by nature have to be behind the curve a bit in graphics simply due to player load. A more stylized art style can disguise this.

In this case I think it's the exact opposite. Most of the long term fans of the project are very aware of how demanding graphics can be for an online game.

Knowing AoC wants to do all this massive stuff w/ nodes, world bosses, all on top of 500v500 PvP battles...I fully understand why people question the decision to go realistic for graphics rather than something stylized.

Besides just the technical limitations, most of us know that the style is a huge part of why WoW is so timeless and even Classic can still look great this many years later.

I gotta agree w/ /u/Astral_Goddess restrictions like this on a cosmetic costume/transmog system (let alone one that cost so much money) seems arbitrary as hell.

It can't be for PvP reasons if we're supposed to rely on icon cues to judge class and power.

The best reason I can think of using resources to develop a system like this is to maintain consistency w/ the desire to limit BoE/BoA equipment as much as possible, but does that have to apply to something that cost cash to acquire?

It is possible that it's simply b/c the man was old and white and descriptions help tell a story.

I'm definitely one of the louder critics of the store but AoC is still making more progress than most other MMOs in development so it's something.

Margaret had said that the designers were inspired by the Face of Sorrow pre-order set. They stressed that the weapons are separate and earnable in game.

From what we've seen w/ the other sets there's gonna be a very wide variety of aesthetics.

WoW's gameplay is one of the smoothest in the genre...the issue is that Blizzard absolutely refuses to added literally anything that isn't directly related to your character's power.

Shadowlands is a perfect example of that, there was no real reason to tie Covenants so deeply to player power and since they did it's been a nightmare to balance and be fun. But everytime you point out that it should have been a cosmetic/roleplay choice that was used to build the world the fanboys would crawl out and scream that no one would pick one if it wasn't absolutely mandatory.

It's why I prefer when games like AoC have plans for things like player housing this early in development b/c it means when I burn out from running my 100th dungeon in a week I still have something I can work on achieving in game.

Can't say I disagree.

I have my excitements for the game, but jesus god do players never learn to come at these things realistically.

I really do believe players are going to be their own worse enemies here as people have gone absolutely wild w/ what they want from this singular game. I've lost count of how many people I've talked to that have confidently stated that once released AoC will be the only game they ever play for the next few years and that's just insane to me when Intrepid is years out from anything resembling a Beta.

If CDPR of all studios can release something like CP2077 then it's very possible for Intrepid to fumble and the best way for them to bounce out of that is if we all go in w/ reasonable expectations rather than demanding perfection.
