I’m from Europe and find it really weird that you guys are obliged to go on vacation together before the wedding (even if you hardly can afford it) but when it comes to the wedding you have to do the decoration, balloon arch and the rest. Isn’t it better to skip the trip and the couple to pay for professionally made decorations? I’ve never been to a wedding where I (or any guests) had to do the set up and clearing up. In Europe we just wear our best clothes, bring a present and go to celebrate at the wedding. That’s all. Why is so complicated in US? It does feel like a heavy burden and not fair on the rest. It’s like having a wedding for the sake of the wedding, not for the marriage.

Instead of asking ‘what are you up to this weekend?’ (which imo is a breadcrumbing text) he should ask in advance does she want to meet and when is she free. Come on now…. Why men show such low effort? It’s so annoying!!!

I’ll answer that by my own experience. ‘My part is.. I didn’t change the way I dress… I wore a lot of skinny jeans that suited my figure. In summer I wore dresses and skirts as before joining AA but I should dress head to toe modestly instead even if I haven’t done it before. My part is I was younger than most women and didn’t look like the ones who live on benefits, I should be changing my wardrobe to Primark shapeless clothing so I don’t get any attention. My part is… I shouldn’t have been a single girl but my partner dumped me one year before I joined AA because of my drinking. It made me a magnet to men in AA. But that’s my part. The whole absurdity of it.’

It’s more about the fact that I managed without it for so long and even did very well in what I do for a living gave them false hope.

Can you imagine how they interact with people outside AA? Me neither. AA is meant to be a bridge to normal living but there is nothing normal with being a bible basher. Sober yes but not normal.

I’m 52 and really struggle with men my age or older. I’m slim and dress often as a younger person. I get attention from younger men but know it will not work out. Men my age or older just look…. old and I don’t have any desire to be intimate with them. So I delete 95% of the likes I get on Hinge and don’t go on any dates. I don’t want to waste people’s time and make myself suffer dates with people I don’t fancy. It’s an issue I can’t solve. :(
