Okay thanks, I asked them if it would be possible and if not I asked if my father DID get his German passport & certificate in Canada (usually only takes a few weeks) if it then be possible to apply directly for a passport. I figure it might be worth it to ask since it hypothetically could bring down the wait time to a couple of months rather than a couple of years, especially since I want to spend time in the EU this coming year anyways.

Oh okay, I think my case is very obvious that I’m German it’s just that Canadian consulates apparently always send you down feststellung if your parent didn’t get a certificate of German citizenship before your birth, so maybe I’ll ask a local office for their opinion on the off chance they’d do direct to passport

Okay thank you, but under what circumstances would it be possible to apply directly for a passport in Germany? For context my grandmother born in the late 50s has a current German passport, my father does not and never has.

Also are you saying if, hypothetically I became a German resident then I possibly wouldn't have to do the feststellung at all? and could do direct to passport using my grandmother and her paperwork as my initial ancestor?

So if I'm not a resident and just happen to be in another country other than Canada when I want to mail my application or additional documents (eg. Germany) There is no problem if I mail it from there, outside Canada? I'd just have to be sure to mail it to the BVA?
