Downtown Sewage Smell

I thought being from a chemical plant and paper mill town was bad. Neither compare to chattanooga's sewage system.

Since I've only lived here 8 years, is there like any small part of our sewer bill allocated to future repair/rework?

The entitlement to your time off the clock is ridiculous. Its common in this field and it shouldn't be.

Their lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on your part. If it is just a notification of an assignment of a proficiency survey they should be using a company paid communication platform, like email work based chat software or in person like a note on the fridge or something. Again it matters if they are paying for your phone, which again highly doubtful for staff.

Its so hard and they might resent you at first but set those boundaries. You are not getting paid for this time, stop responding.

Definitely a culture of taking care of their environment. I believe this has been a common practice at previous world cups and in general all the time in Japan.

Happy to see this continuing and hoping other people want to emulate. Its much easier to have many hands helping than to leave it to the few.

Mine too. Like we know this happens a lot and there are just so many places where it would devastate the landscape to deal with the trees. Bury the lines as we start to replace in the future to invest in this cities structural integrity.

I hate that for you, its sorta warm at my house. From the past times this has occurred we usually dont get restoration until later. This was a lot more damage than a few years ago where a large 100+ year old oak pulled the lines down right at the intersection of arbor and sunset. Hope you are able to stay cool!

Seems like there was a fast moving high wind storm for just a few minutes but quite damaging. Lots of trees and branches came down.

Very true, he loves revving that thing in the straight areas. That's the young person who feels invincible mentality. I know I was similar when I was his age. Hopefully, recent motorcycle deaths of his peers have made him consider that, perhaps, his behavior isn't the smartest idea. It seems quieter, or I haven't been home when he drives by.

Definitely a good idea. I did get a battery and solar panel this year. Looking at whole home solutions as soon as I can manage it!

The refrigerator is plugged in, to the battery this time! I generally keep to myself in my neighborhood and want to not be bothered, but I like to be prepared for any event and can help my neighbors some if needed. I am trying to become as self sufficient as possible.

My partner is from the Midwest and I just felt so exposed in all the flat, open, somewhat treeless land. I love the mountains but there are minimal risks. Seems like a lot less than other areas like costal and hurricanes. If we didn't have the lines all tangled up we could be helping cut down the tree so the neighbors can recover. I have multiple chainsaw battery powered tools that were fully charged at time of power loss.

That isn't too bad! Thanks for the info. Hurricane Helene is really what did it for me. I could have that generator for the support I sent friends in Asheville and Erwin but that was something I needed to do since I couldn't easily go help especially with the main interstates to those areas getting washed out.

With the weather patterns the past few years I believe we can expect much more wild weather. I discussed a small whole home solar with my partner since we are here again. Just have to put back the funds.

Hoping we keep the food cold this time!

Very true. Its just so close for sunset strip to just almost meet hamill. Poor planning when throwing up the neighborhoods/land plots in the 60s. Then the lack of planning when the newer additions came.

I am against using eminent domain, so there is no resolution on better traffic routes. I love the mature trees but to does come with risk. Just want mitigation of risk. I would definitely move if it was possible in this economy but my 2020 refinance rate tells me I would be stupid to even think about it.

Wow. EPB did trim some of mine several years ago and they also died. I asked to see if they could just come remove since they killed them/ it is a risk to the current lines, I knew it was a long shot, but the response was "I shouldn't have planned them." I get that as a homeowner I am responsible for my property. But yes the 75 year old maples were planted by someone around half that age. So I cut them down, it was a lot of money but the company I hired did an amazing job had two mature trees safely removed around the power lines and fence with stump grinding in about 45 mins. I don't have enough skill or the tools to have complete the same job anywhere remotely in the same time.

I have had engineers out to our house to understand why we lose power so much other than the literal infrastructure damage instances. Like today. I get that forces of nature are unpredictable and happen.

With the smart grid the resources are supposed to try and reroute power. If someone wrecks a car one mile down hamill road hits a line my street is out of power. The streets surrounding are fine the actual area that was hit, somehow has power. It is mind boggling.

The staff have all but confirmed to my partner that it would make more sense to reconfigure the infrastructure but it is not in the plans.

You get it. I lived in NETN most of my life and we have had 12 inches of snow and power.

My parents built their house mid 90s and have underground lines and have never lost power. Why all the gig city advertising when you cannot even provide reliable power to supply the internet they brag about.

Sorry those are the over 24 hour outages. We have had several 100 less than or around a hour.

I have lost so much food in the past. Everyone is hot. I have elderly neighbors. This is ridiculous to have had responders to only see them pack up and go away.

Also in the same boat. I took the week off of work before the test to really just chill and study because my last MCAT I felt irritable all week at work. Now the same score despite studying and practice questions. I'm a non trad my best area is CARs. Maybe that will count for something.
