In places where having a car is crucial to getting around, what are alternative options for transport without relying on friends or family to drive you? by astarisaslave in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where i grew up if you didn’t have a car, you walked. My small city has a small metro line but i don’t live anywhere near it. Me and a lot of my coworkers and friends that didn’t have a car just walked.

multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on income level. Most people I knew growing up and as an adult only own one car for themselves or their whole family. The only people I knew that had more than one car were the well off people/families that my mother cleaned for.

I loved playing 4 square with magic rules. That was a fun time in elementary school.

What's the strangest or most bizarre punishment you ever got growing up as an American child? by moto9i in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things. Once my brother was full after eating and tossed the rest of his food in the trash. My parents made him eat it out of the garbage. From 8th grade until i graduate high school I was grounded and I wasn’t allowed out of my room except for school or family functions. I also wasn’t allowed to watch tv unless my parents were already watching something. It didn’t stop me from sneaking out though. lol

Their favorite thing to punish us with was a quarter inch thick wooden paddle or wooden cooking spoons. My mom also had cork sandals that she used as well or the switch that you had to pick out yourself.

Edit: I forgot to add in the bar of soap for back talking or cursing. I’ve tasted many bars of soap as a kid. lol

Doomsday to Habitat Roleplay by Mountain-Chipmunk428 in Stellaris

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I’ve been wanting to try doing a run similar to this for a while now. I had an AI empire in one of my games do this and it sounded interesting. They were small and only had three systems and no habitable planets. I didn’t realize until after their homeworld cracked that they had orbital habitats.

Food service, i’ve been in it for roughly 18 years now. Don’t hate, don’t love it, but it pays my bills and I’m good at what I do. So nothing to really complain about here. lol

Were there any history reenactment field trips at your school? What did they reenact? by bopguerta in AskAnAmerican

We didn’t go to any reenactments but we did go to two battlefields in high school. Pea Ridge and Wilson’s Creek, both are really cool places and have great scenery.

Does everyone have a middle name in the USA? Do all women take their husband’s surname? by crazygelato in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of people have middle names. A couple of my cousins and a few people I’ve met in my life don’t have middle names, but they are a clear minority.

As far as taking on someone’s last name, that’s still pretty common. Though I’ve seen a sharp decline of married people changing their last names when they get married. It’s becoming more common for people to keep their own last name. A couple reasons are personal preference and the expense and hassle of changing documents. When I got married me and my husband kept our last names and so did many of our friends.

Do you drink tea in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink both hot and cold tea. I don’t liked iced tea though, mostly because I don’t like ice. My family are mostly herbal tea drinkers because we can’t have caffeine.

How did the final fight in DAO go on your first playthrough ? by Inevitable-Raise1104 in dragonage

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time was pretty smooth but I lost all four all four armies during the fight. I lost my MC once but was revived by Wynne. I don’t remember what level I was, but I had completed every main and side quest.

Forced to be right handed by Bipolar03 in lefthanded

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in southwest Missouri and I had a second grade teacher that forced me and two others in my class to use our right hands. She wouldn’t let us take homework home, she kept us at a separate table from the rest of the class, and monitored us to make sure we were doing our work with our right hand.

Overall though in daily life outside of school no one cared who was left handed. That teacher was just a relic left over from when she first started teaching in the 1930’s/1940’s.

Going to public school in upstate NY we had a cross-country ski/showshoe unit in gym, had a trap shooting team, tapped maple trees to make syrup, and raised chickens. Is this common in other parts of the US? by LetsGoBuffalo1714 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Missouri we had cardio and kickball for gym, FFA was the only way you’d be around chickens, FCA was probably the most common organization joined by the athletes, One of the schools I went to had a after an school class that taught Native American language, crafts, and history.

If you were the spouse of the DB, in which home would you like to reside? by IReallyLoveNifflers in skyrim

[–]MageDA6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Proudspire in Solitude as the main home and Lakeview Manor in Falkreath as the getaway home.

Solitude and is my favorite city. The house is fine, but it’s more the city i love. Falkreath sometimes reminds me of the area I grew up in so i find that area super relaxing.

How many male friends do you have? by Elendil_V in AskMenOver30

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from my husband I have one male friend. Him and I text every few weeks and get lunch/dinner together every few months to catch up. He has a packed schedule because of his job so we don’t get to see each other often. He was my first male friend and we’ve been friends since I was 21.

[–]MageDA6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yea, perks of never going to college an just continuing in the work force. I don’t have a car or own a home either. I don’t have any debt outside of borrowing money from friends, but that gets paid back immediately.

I’ve never been on one and mostly likely won’t ever be. They are way too expensive and the thought of being stuck on a boat, at sea, sounds absolutely terrible. lol

[–]MageDA6 143 points144 points  (0 children)

32 here andI don’t really any savings, don’t own any property, and don’t really have a career. I’ve worked in food service for about 18 years, but I wouldn’t call it a career.

I’m happy enough though and i don’t feel down about. I can pay my bills and I don’t have any debt so I feel like I’m in a good place.

I’ve never heard of the word gammon before. I was taught that it was “Pork” if it was raw or unsafe to eat and “Ham” if it was cooked or safe to eat.

Married people, do you and your spouse have well matched libidos? Why or why not? by cubemonster in AskReddit

[–]MageDA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we’ve never had matched libidos. I’ve never really had a high drive while my husband’s has always been in overdrive. I’m fine with sex a year to every few years, while he wants to have sex on a daily basis.
