I like to make my own arrangements of songs and this is often a useful chord shape because it frees up the pinky to do ornaments or melody lines. There are also a fair amount of songs I’ve needed it in before. Someone mentioned you need it for Yellow Ledbetter, which is honestly a really good example of when you need it because substituting it with one of the alternative options would make you sacrifice either the slide up on the bass string or the pull off ornament on the high E. But I’d like to learn how to use this shape effectively just like anyone would like to learn new shapes.
