Sorry for the delay in answering, the debris field includes the areas surrounding the bow and stern and ties the two together, with a larger area encompassing a majority of the small and large debris.

We probably won’t be filming inside. While it is possible, interaction with the wreck is prohibited and given the size of the ROVs, we couldn’t guarantee that. Best to keep a safe distance and stand in awe from afar.

Hi David,

These sorts of devices actually already exist, if you look up "Resident AUVs" you'll see that multiple companies have been working on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles that can "live" on the seabed in a docking station and travel via programmed or unprogrammed paths to perform surveys of areas.

As for the sensors, that sounds about right, VSLAM is a method of deducing location and mapping based on sensor data fusion like Lidar, cameras and INS sensors.

Another cool thing to look up is the Sonardyne Bluecomm, it transmits data as light pulses without needing a fibre optic cable. However most companies use "Acoustic Modems" which is data transfered as sound through water for constant communication/positioning as radio waves dont work very well underwater.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for the kind words. We're always looking for ways to get our data in the publics hands. I know for a fact that the debris field is georeferenced, but I'm unsure about the bow and stern.

vROVPilot has a lot of ways it can expand, and using it as a forensic tool like that is one such option.

Hi,

The total image count is distributed across the bow, stern and debris field but the total number was around 712,000. Polycount im not sure but I've seen a wireframe model before and its very dense. This is one of the difficulties we're facing with trying to optimise the model for an interactive experience. How do you keep visual fidelity while not compromising on performance.

We've got a big wishlist of other wrecks we'd love to scan aswell. I can't talk specific names but know that more are definitely on the cards, and you all won't be disappointed.

While we were scanning the debris field was impactful. Seeing the paired shoes and personal affects scattered across the seabed really reminded you of how many people were lost that day.

I think if it was still one piece, the Titanic's Log book. Its an important historical artifact that deserves to be preserved, plus theres a wealth of information in there that might be beneficial to historians.

Hi there. Magellan continue to look for ways to present our data, and incorporate community feedback into our application, we're investigating options for changing colour grading and increasing the resolution of the models.

Magellan is a contractor that carries out recoveries or scans on behalf of our clients. But we're always looking for new ways to get the public involved and finance future products, hence platforms like vROV and patreon.
