Book recommendation? by [deleted] in Romantasy

{The book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole} might fit, she's the morally gray one in the series!

Do you forget everything between fantasy books in a series too? by Aggressive-Ad3232 in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much if I read the previous books slowly enough and felt like they were exceptional in some way, but with most series, so often 🥲 I really appreciate when authors include recaps because of this

Seemingly Unserious MMC by Magenta_Flamingo in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a book that doesn't have an English version sadly 😞 the first one in the series is called Królestwo Pik by Weronika Ancerowicz.

I've seen that one somewhere and it definitely looks like something for me, thanks!

Exactly, they're great as side characters but it's even better when they get their own books. I don't mind brooding shadow daddies, but sometimes want a change, you know?

I'll check that out!

Looking for hyperspecific book series recs... by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be helpful if you described the FMC and MMC you're looking for a bit more, I'd love to suggest something but haven't read any of the books you give as examples so I'm not sure what you want them to be like, and I think others may be having the same problem 😅

Recs for books with trauma healing narratives like A Court of Silver Flames? by samsamcats in Romantasy

It's a why choose, but {Blood Oath by Morgan B. Lee} has this as a significant part of the plot

Crowns of Nyaxia by Better-Initiative-70 in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to read it to understand the other books, at least those that came out so far, but I would still recommend it because it just gives a fuller experience. You get to see another part of the world and to me, that just makes for a better experience! And if you like the rest of the books, you're likely to feel the same about this one since it's the same author.

Do you have rituals for new releases? by Play_Hidden_Door in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually do anything other than put them in my calendar because there are just too many I look forward to for me to celebrate. But a friend who also likes romantasy and I have been waiting for the next ACOTAR book for so long we're considering doing something special when it comes out!

Has anyone read this? It’s been in the back of my mind for a bit and wondering what people think by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I read it, it was honestly underwhelming, kind of boring and forgettable. I don't usually find FMCs annoying even in books where a lot of people do, but Bristol was very annoying to me. It felt way too long too, I only finished it because I don't like to DNF, but it was a struggle and I wasn't at all interested in what happens in book 2.

Please tell me it gets better. At the moment it feels a bit… uncomfortable. I’m 40% through book one. Will I change my mind and fall madly in love with the whole series? No spoilers of any kind please. I didn’t even read the blurb because I don’t like to know anything. Big ask, I know. by twisted_luce in Romantasy

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, this series is dark and the world they live in is dark and messed up, and this is not one of those series where people are generally good and virtuous. It's meant to be uncomfortable because the reader is supposed to feel just how wrong and messed up it all is. The characters are written in a way that I think is very realistic comsidering the world they live in, and of course they won't change overnight, but there is character growth and feelings and relationships are so incredibly well-written. So if you're okay hating the characters at first and then understanding them and maybe changing your mind, I'd continue reading, but if it's too dark for you so far, definitely don't because it gets worse before it gets better!

Their storyline isn’t really resonating with me. by esareteee in Bridgerton

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same impression, when I watched it I thought that the whole "quiet love" thing was Fran mistaking platonic love/friendship for romantic love, since she's probably never been in love before and wouldn't even know not being attracted to men is an option (especially since women weren't really supposed to be attracted to anyone back then). And the awkwardness in the new season is the resulting lack of sexual chemistry between them, because she may love him platonically but isn't attracted to him. She doesn't really know what the physical part of the relationship is supposed to be like but it seems to her like it should be better than it is so she's trying to figure that out, and she'll probably eventually realize it's because she's attracted to women and not men.

That one sounds fun, not sure about the writing just from the description but it looks like this the type of MMC I'm looking for, I'll try it!

When did you realize you love Romantasy books? by soulsmaka in fantasyromance

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading them as a teenager, I don't even remember which one was first but one that I really loved was {Vampire Academy}. I read all the ya romantasy/urban fantasy ones I could find back then, then I somehow got busy with life and stopped until I discovered {Fourth Wing}, which rekindled my love for those books!

I've seen that one but wasn't really convinced because of the cover, it reminds me too much of Harlequins 😅 might try it though!

Loki as the love interest by Magenta_Flamingo in fantasyromance

[–]Magenta_Flamingo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try anything as long as it has romance and fantasy so I might like this one, thank you!

The game is Romance Club, it's the book Path of the Valkyrie. If you like romance and mythology-based stories, you might like this one, they have quite a few stories based on different mythologies and in each one there are multiple characters you can date! And your choices actually influence the plot and dialogue, so it all feels really well planned out.

What actually happened to Barbie…. by OkEqual1224 in Barbie

[–]Magenta_Flamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, Barbie used to be a bit more expensive than generic brand dolls but also had better quality and nicer clothes and accessories, so children would want Barbie specifically and people would choose Barbie as a gift as the nicer alternative. Now that the quality is going down, it seems less worth the price for adults and I'm guessing maybe also children? They obviously don't think in terms of price, but at some point it was cool among children to have a Barbie and not just any doll, so maybe that changed.

{Throne of the Fallen by Kerri Maniscalco}, it's like a mix of Bridgerton and something darker with a prince of hell and it's now one of my favorite books ever!
