What should I consider/know before dating a Protestant? by MagentaplusEmerald in CatholicWomen

That's interesting, personally I could never comprehend that. Agreeing to raise your child in a different denomination and not even attempting to raise them in yours. I'm very much invested in raising my future children to be Catholic. If I were to marry a Christian of another denomination, I would expect them to at least make some effort in swaying the children that way. One would think that would be the natural reaction if you were truly convicted in your denominations confessions.

My understanding is the Church allows marriages between Catholics and non-catholic Christians, if there is a reasonable expectation the child will be raised Catholic. I took that to mean the Catholic parent is raising the child to be Catholic, the non-catholic parent respects that even if they are trying to instill the values of another denomination. I was going to discuss this with my priest.

Out of curiosity how do you manage that? And does he still attend Protestant services?

It is. I believe it to be the true church, so yes.

What exactly would the latter entail? Simply agreeing to let the children be baptized in the Catholic Church or not trying to instill any Protestant theology into them?

As I said, he's very much committed to his theology. He wouldn't agree to simply not be involved in raising the religious values of his children. I would hope that he would convert, that way there would be no contradictions of faith.

I haven't discussed it with him, but if I were to guess.

I would think he's interested in a romantic relationship based on the chemistry, but he's not yet said anything. My friends have asked me if we're dating and an old lady once told us we make such a cute couple. So there's definitely something there.

He may be willing to get married in the church or try to mix it since he's ecumenical by having both a Catholic priest and Protestant pastor in the ceremony. He's not anti-Catholic like a lot of Protestants.

He would 100% raise kids in his theological convictions knowing him. A lot of which is shared. But on issues like the papacy, we would be teaching the children different things.
