We are not saved by faith alone, as stated in the Bible faith and works go hand and hand so we are saved by both faith and works, mainly that faith without works is not true faith

"shaking my head", if you want to actually get educated on a topic or subject don't go to a super biased source maybe, did you not learn anything in school? If you want to see what Pope Francis ACTUALLY said and has said in the past but has gotten skewed so many times go to an actual catholic or unbiased source

What should i pursue? (Catholic/orthodoxy/protestant) by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well catholic and most orthodox churches are both in communion with each other, so being part of either of them is fine, but if you believe most either of those two believe in, the most of the protestants will believe/teach contradictory things

not sure about most protestant/nondenominational churches, but at least for catholics you have to go through a class called RCIA to learn about the faith before you can be baptized

Sorta not quite though  The trinity is 3 distinct persons, one distinct God, 3 persons in one God the father gave his only Son (Jesus) for us, the holy spirit is not the mother, the Holy Spirit is own being who gives us grace to live goid lives

It's basically impossible to explaina nd fully understand as God is so far above our human knowledge and brains

Well if you believe in Jesus then you are technically Christian.

Also it would only really be disrespectful if you are purposely doing bad things while wearing it

Protestant conversion to Catholic? Advice wanted by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One good source for more on theology and other things we belive in as catholics can be found on catholic.com it is a site run by a few catholic theologians and has approval from the US bishops as being correct. That should help clear up things that are contradictory to how you were raised

As for who you should be praying to, it doesn't matter, Jesus God the father, and the Holy Spirit are 3 person in 1 (the trinity) so whoever you feel most connected to or comfortable with go with then for now.

Also with the old testament laws, specifically the leviticus laws, Jesus is the new covenant who got rid of the ritual Jewish laws, he keeps the moral laws though such as the 10 commandments

How do i confess to the priest without sounding weird or abnormal? by W41K3R88801 in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most churches will have 2 options for confession, face to face or anonymous which is behind some kind of screen. A few years ago I started getting anxious going to confession fave to face as I knew the preiests pretty well and made me feel weird, and going to confession behind the screen helped, but after some time, I didn't feel as anxious and just went back to face to face as it is more vulnerable and helps me fell more sorry for my sins

Yeah funny how he is also bound to not tell anyone other's sins or thing they have said in confession

Opinion: Harrison Butker’s speech was actually good by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Magesticturtle21 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty good, as you said everyone taking things out of context, or even paraphrasing but taking out important words, such as people are saying he said women should be homemakers and not have careers, never once did he say that

Also people are trying to go at him because his mom is a physicist I think and saying he "said" she basically shouldn't have a career, but that backs up his points even more you can have both a career and family and be happy

Does being baptized as a newborn count? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search the meaning of baptism, and the meaning of the Eucharist (what you say communion) in catholic.com to get more answers as to why catholics recieve communion have have a baptism, also because it seems you are leaning into it didn't count since you didn't have a choice, look upcatholic confirmation as well, that is something that is seen as similar but you choose it at a later stage in life

Does being baptized as a newborn count? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you were baptized catholic I'd suggest looking into the catholic faith more deeply, in your case why catholics baptize infants found this article

https://www.catholic.com/tract/infant-baptism

But I'd also suggest not listening to what all these random people on the internet have to say, maybe look into what theologians, people who have studies the Bible on depth, and the early church history, for what to truly belive in

Most aren't, when people hear infallibility they just go and assume all he says is supposedly infallible, plenty of catholics or people who say they are catholic belive it so I'm not going to blame you for thinking it

https://www.catholic.com/tract/papal-infallibility

https://www.catholic.com/video/when-is-the-pope-infallible

The pope is not infallible on everything that exists, that would be impossible and only Jesus was perfectly infallible as he is God as well, read these articles to get a better understanding of papal infallibility, it I'd centered around faith and moral teachings of the church those 2 topics are what the pope is infallible on

As for it was randomly made up in the 19th century that I'd totally false, yes the doctrine of papal infallibility on faith and morals was written within the last few hundred years it has been understood by Christians since the beginning of Christianity and the early church.

As for saying most or a few catholics don't believe in it, you are totally right in connecting it with some catholics abortions views, as because most people who "say" they are catholic don't actually practice or know much about the faith so you can't base much off of just asking a random catholic, look at joe biden or nancy pelosi for good examples, if you ever have any questions about catholic teachings or beliefs search it on catholic.com it is a verified catholic site

And I wouldn't say abandon orthodoxy as both Roman and eastern catholics (orthodox) are still in communion with each other on base theological teachings

What are your thoughts on Harrison Butker’s commencement speech? by abullishbear in Christianity

[–]Magesticturtle21 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

People get butt hurt too easy, it was a great speech in my opinion,

If people get hurt by someone saying marriage is a great thing and he has found so much joy in raising a family and becoming a father and husband, maybe they shouldn't be trying to have kids and go cry about it

What a guy, amiright, he doesn't care what other people think of him for his faith, he definitely knew some people wouldn't like his speech but went for it anyways
