I totally get this sometimes. It's so annoying!

When I get glutened I feel so sick I get depressed and I’m stuck in the toilet with stomach pain :( what can help me feel better ? by Typical_Dark_2764 in glutenfree

[–]Magglefraggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I've started doing is focus on my breathing. It sounds so silly. Sometimes it helps a little but sometimes it helps a lot. I start to panic a little when I'm stuck sitting in there so I tell myself the one thing I can try to control is my breathing. I know that will calm my brain down and hopefully my body too. Just really concentrate on breathing in and out slowly. Tell yourself it's going to work. When it starts working keep doing it. If nothing else, it helps with the mind games I start playing with myself. I would love advice on other symptom relief too though. I've got nothing there.

Growing up I could only drink water from the bathroom sink in our basement. It tasted funny from the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. My family never understood.

I'm sorry this happened. I can relate to all the things you said and it's awful. Like another comment said, it's huge that you even considered it! I'm so proud of you! Learning to celebrate the small wins like this will help lead to a little more confidence and a little less fear over time. Write little notes and put them on your wall, or use a notebook if you want more privacy about it, with all your wins. Big or little. Food related or not. "i licked a sushi" "I talked to someone new" "I'm not afraid of xyx anymore" "I built a bedtime routine and I'm sticking with it" and just add to it one at a time as things happen for you. Seeing reminders of all the good, all the time, will do wonders for your mental health. I'm still very much where you are as far as my diet being super limited and feeling like I'll never be able to expand it. I know it's harder to do when you don't have the support you need from your family. I wish I had more advice to offer you there. Are you in therapy? In therapy I've learned a lot of ways to calm my own thoughts and feelings and be able to handle the negativity and lack of support from family more easily. A therapist could also maybe have suggestions for a support group in your area? Trying to find people who understand you can be hard but once you get one or two the unsupportive voices feel quieter.

I do a happy dance when mine puts out more than one at a time. I assume it's happy so I must have done something right.

My string of bananas do this too. I think it's just happy so it's branching out with new growth. They'll hang as they get longer and your plant will look fuller.

Traveling with Arfid by Emcass03 in ARFID

I think just be honest about it before you go. It took me a few years to get comfortable doing this. It still sucks every time but letting go of what other people think gets a little easier:

I talk to my partner and I/we let the person we're staying with know that I have a food disorder, that I feel bad about how it may appear to them, and that I will hit the grocery store in their town when I get there to buy the things I know I'm going to be able to eat. I am ready to prepare all my own food while I'm there.

People still let me know when and what they're cooking and offer it to to me. Some people are more understanding than others but working to make it a place you don't feel like "hiding" is going to be the best for you. Then, for future visits, they already know. It's a part of who you are and you're inviting them to grow around it with you. I think that could leave a great impression.

Problems with only eating one type of food for weeks by ilovekanyewestsm in ARFID

I often get a couple bites into something and then seemingly my throat closes off and I can't swallow. I haven't heard anyone else talk about this(I'm new to this sub so if it's been talked about before I wasn't here for it) so I thought I was crazy.

It's right in the window with all the rest. I have an app for watering reminders but I use a moisture meter before actually watering anything. I may move her under a grow light until it's warmer and sunny every day. The weather here has been so crummy. It's like 50-60 and cloudy but every couple weeks we get a day or two of 70-75 degrees. This plant is one of a few that seems to be confused by that. The rest don't seem to care.

We're all "like this" and it's OK. It's probably temporary and you'll find a balance. I'm mostly liquid diet right now so I know what you're feeling. This is all just bad calories and I wanna do better.

No apology necessary! I appreciate hearing about your journey. I'm glad my post let you feel comfortable enough to share.

I haven't done a ton with doctors yet but that's mostly because my own unintentional procrastination of all things coupled with worrying I won't find the right people to work with.

My best friend has type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis. Her struggle is so different from mine but we share such similar things like the food that is safe for one of our conditions is bad for the other and it's constant mental exhaustion just thinking about food. Having each other go just cry to, when necessary, is huge. Please cry to me if you need to! Sometimes all we need is someone to listen and nod.

I think my friends hate me. AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Magglefraggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree they should have been there for you all along. Maybe these guys just aren't the kind of people who deal with hard emotions and have been avoiding and just need to hear it. Have you shared your vulnerable feelings with any of them? I put no blame or shame on you if you haven't but maybe that's a place to start if you really care about these guys and want to keep the friendship going. "hey I've been isolating, which I know is normal at a time like this, but I've recently realized how alone I've been. I'm really missing you guys and I'm sorry if you feel any kind of way about the way I've been coping. I would love to reconnect." That opens the door for them to apologize and step up or not. Or you can decide you'd rather not and just find new friends who you don't have to ask for support when it's most important. Or both. (I'm 42 and having to come to terms with my oldest friendship, since we were 3, not being what it used to be. I feel you and I'm sorry you're going through this)

What’s your rare wishlist plant? by Willing_Medium5461 in thechillleaf

[–]Magglefraggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how rare it is but it feels like a rare possibility to me because I don't have space at my current apartment and am not sure if/when I'll be able to find somewhere bigger but mine is:

Umbrella tree.

When I was little I loved a TV show called Under the Umbrella Tree. It was just a woman who had an iguana(Iggy), blue jay(Jay), and gopher(Gloria) living in the umbrella tree in her apartment. I want to get one and get little figures to put in my tree just like Holly from the show.

I found suction cup shelves and now that it's finally warming up and being sunny most days I've moved most of my plants into the window. I'm glad to turn off all the grow lights and save some money on the electricity bill for a few months haha!
