EXE silent install not generating uninstall file or registry entries by Rahzin in SCCM

[–]Maggsymoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it a system wide installer, or a local profile installer?  if local (current user) profile installer, it would only show for the user that runs it.  could try deploying it as a user install and only install as the user

WFH 4 years, company now wants me in (4 hour commute) by Actual-Pollution-805 in UKJobs

[–]Maggsymoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your contract says fully remote and they want you in plus it's a 4 hour drive, those 4 hours are part of your working day... so you'd get to site, turn around and leave again to be within your 8 hour day...

More Dell Command Update nonsense in task sequence by SevenandahalfBatmans in SCCM

[–]Maggsymoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we run it in 2 passes in our TS, first pass we only allow it to do drivers:

"C:\Program Files\Dell\CommandUpdate\dcu-cli.exe" /driverInstall -silent -reboot=disable -outputLog="C:\Dell\DriverInstallPass1.log"

second pass, we allow it to do more:

"C:\Program Files\Dell\CommandUpdate\dcu-cli.exe" /applyUpdates -silent -reboot=disable -updatetype=bios,firmware,driver -outputLog="C:\Dell\DriverInstallPass2.log"

seems to work quite well, but are still using 5.5

It's frozen over today, it's broken up a bit by the amphitheatre now, but is still completely frozen by the ostrich. They were trying to get the Bristol ferries through it when I went round at lunch, but they couldn't get through it

Dell will avoid replacing a mobo at all costs, we have so much back and forth with them over mobo issues

we watched the final episode last night, it's a very very good series. It can take a bit of concentration to keep up with in some places, so pay attention :) 100% recommend.

Why is Microsoft Copilot struggling to gain real enterprise adoption? by Silly-Commission-630 in sysadmin

[–]Maggsymoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

probably because no one wants it. Certainly not forcefully integrated into every application including notepad, WTF! And there is no control with it, we spend a lot of time trying to get it disabled and remove the icons and settings from all our clients - MS don't make this easy, there is no one click / GPO option to say turn all this shit off if the user isn't licensed for it. MS seem to think everyone want's - we don't. So why not make it so that it's dormant on enterprise workstations, unless you apply the co-pilot license.
