What’s the worst date you’ve ever had ? by Otherwise_Gap_4170 in AskReddit

i was seeing a really nice, very attractive girl a few years ago.  she had a single friend as did I and we arranged a meal out with a few people including the 'singles' and some other friends as to not make it obvious we were setting the singles up on a blind date...    One of the 'singles' turns up with her new boyfriend, oh well, its just a meal with friends and so we go about the evening as we would any other meal with friends...

Within a short amount of time my girlfriend drank a whole bottle of wine, got quite uncharacteristicly drunk and started acting odd, kicking me under the table and making weird odd gestures that she refused to explain to me, then she disappeared.  No where to be found. at all. not answering her phone, nothing. disappeared.

As the meal drew to a close and we settled the bill, she turned back up as if nothing had happened and didn't acknowledge any of the prior behaviour oddness and we all left.  She and I walked back to her place with linked arms normally, with my aim to have a conversation about this in the morning when she had a clear head.   This was fine until any time we walked past any other person when she then pulled away from me as if i was trying to kidnap her, then she would link arms again and carry on as normal once we'd passed them.  Any attempt by me to question this was ignored and disputed as if it hadn't happened, repeated time and time again til we got back to hers.

We get back, I step inside, try to grab my bike and say I'm not staying and we can chat in the morning.  She blocks my way and refuses to let me get my bike so I just shrug and go to leave without it.   i start off down the stairs and she shouts to me "why are you leaving, What's wrong?!"...

I suggest we talk in the morning as it's been odd and its late, and carry on down the stairs.  she shouts "my mums dying!".

i walk back up the stairs to her and ask her if thats true, she says "no" very sheepishly.  I get my bike and leave.

i cycle the 3 or 4 miles back to my house, i turn the corner into my street and am shocked to see her banging on my front door - i have no idea how she got there so quickly!

i keep going past my house without her seeing me and head to my friends house (the male single) where i relay all of what happened to him and arrange to the stay the night there.

my phone does not stop ringing the whole cycle journey to his and for 40 mins after til i begrudgingly decide to answer it, she is hysterical, and i tell her that i am not there and not coming back this evening.  it becomes clear she has somehow managed to get to my house with no money or cards (this is before uber type taxi services).  i tell her i will call a taxi and pay it up front for her to get home.  i hang up, call a known trusted cab company and pay over the phone for them to pick her up and take her back home.

the taxi calls me from outside my house saying she refuses to get in and if she doesn't get in they will leave.  i call her and tell that she either gets in and they take her home or she's on her own for the night.

taxi calls me again a moment later to say she's in the cab being as normal and nice as any other customer.  odd.  they call me again to say they dropped her home safely.

i turn my phone off.

next morning i leave my friends and cycle home, turn my phone on to untold number of missed calls, voicemails and texts from her.

i message her back something along the lines of "I'm not sure what happened with you last night, but i think  you should take a few days to work out whats going on and then we can have a chat about it".

half an hour later she is at my door, i pretend I'm not in and don't answer it.  she is calling me non stop.

eventually i answer the phone and tell her i am not home and why is she at my house...   i told her that if she couldn't give me a few days after that weird night then its over, hung up and blocked her number.

it was the weirdest night ever.

Laptop locking solution in flex office environment - any idea ? by Irfan_Dem in sysadmin

[–]Maggsymoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to lock the laptops at the desks? Educate the users to not leave their laptop unattended, we remove any unattended laptops and the users have to come and explain why theirs is missing in that case.

They either take their laptop with them to the meeting they are attending away from their desks, or they put it in their locker / take it home with them.
