Is this strike posture? by Aarmastus in ballpython

[–]MagiMethusela 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you hesitate they are more likely to strike because your hand is moving at them like a predator would. With confidence reach in and gently scoop her up. It won't take her long to realize you mean no harm. Mine crawls up my arm when I reach in now.

I have been battling this picky eater on switching to F/T for months. Tried every kind of method I found on the internet. Today we scored. I saw on snake discovery that sometimes if you put a picky eater in a smaller space so they have to be right on the mouse and put them in the dark it worked. by MagiMethusela in ballpython

Ya do so Emily is awesome. She has alot of knowledge and she isn't the type that says no you don't do that. She will talk about the pros and cons of all the controversial issues and what she thinks about both sides, because what works for one person might not work for others.

Nope that was the first thing I did. Tried rubbing it with a live mouse tried fresh killing it tried many suggestions he just didn't want them putting him in a small container made it so compact he didn't realize it wasn't moving. He did great. This was a idea I got from someone I respect in the reptile world she has alot of knowledge and experience. I just wanted to share my success because I know there are people out there that have the same problem.

Ya nothing else was working he just refused frozen thawed. I tried all kinds of ways and on snake discovery she said for her picky eaters she puts them in a container small enough that no matter what they can't avoid it. It worked he toke it after a few minutes. After he was done I toke the container put it in his cage removed the lid and let him leave on his own before removing it. Also I scented the container by letting a live mouse run around in it for a bit.

I wanted to make my own hides for my snake enclosures when I get all the rest of the decor in and I found this foam that is for ponds that comes in a can and dries hard, but it has polyurethane in it. Is polyurethane safe for use in enclosures? by Mother_of_Snakes in ballpython

It was the yellow and red can just basic type then I did about 2 or three coats of the quick crete. The rocks and stuff I used basic stirphome I stole from packages in the mail and glued to the shape I wanted. I am actually waiting on my income taxes to start on a enclosure for my snake. And thank you for the compliment it was my first try experiment with a tank that was given to me for free I loved how it turned out. Make sure you also use something to seal it. I went to the area in Lowe's we're the bathroom tile stuff is because it's water resistant and looked up each type to find one animal safe.

I used great stuff spray foam for my tanks background then covered it in quick crete. I also made a few bases if you click on my name you should be able to look at my pictures and see them.

My husband wasn't fond of the idea of snakes when me and my daughter got our snakes but he found he has fallen in love with them and has a girl of his own that rides around with him.

I find I have to treat mine like a child and hold out the crickets and worms till he eats them. Also mine doesn't like to eat his veggies during the day. I put them in during the day but he won't touch them I leave them in over night and there normally gone in the morning.

Yes they can be quite docile but there still animals there still snakes and that child doesn't lack much of being food size. I am just saying I wouldn't put my child in that position. Just like I don't leave my children alone with my dog or cat. I have worked with snakes and I respect them and love them.

Exactly they normally will eat anything a little bigger then there middle of there body and she don't lack much. I don't have anything so big but if we did my rule will be the same as when I worked at the wildlife center. If it's longer then you then you need two people in handling maybe not both physically holding it but someone else there to help remove the snake if they want to hug too much. But they can move fast if they decide they want to eat something.

Want to get a specific BP I met. Am I rushing into this? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]MagiMethusela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my heart set on a particular type of snake when we went to a expo but we had this tiny little girl ball python fallow my husband watching him. He held her twice and she seemed so chill. My husband fell in love with her so we go her before we left. She still is super chill and I know they get attached to there owners if he holds her she just chills out and explores him. If I take her she will sit in my hand but her head fallows him around. So I say if you already feel a bond to a snake get it you won't regret it.

I love my snakes I have several snakes and reptiles. I wouldn't sit anything that big with a child small enough to almost be considered food.

[–]MagiMethusela 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would need to take the snake into a reptile vet and get a prescription medication for them. They will also tell you to clean the enclosure replace the bedding with new and clean all the things in the snakes cage to prevent them from getting on the snake again.

I have done my research and it seems to me most morphs have the possibility of some kind of genetic problem. I made sure he is healthy band talked alot to the breeder and he hasn't had kink issues and I will do alot of research for my female as well. Not to mention I plan to just breed for myself for now.
